Might be BlackBerry's attempt at stopping stupid people from crying that they deleted all their stuff without knowing. This is the reason I use Total Commander though.
If you want to delete "All files", delete the folder they are in.
If you want to delete a bunch of old emails, use the search if you want to be selective, or directly long press the date you want and select the "Delete Prior" option in the overflow.
That said, you have a wonderful app in your phone called Help. You can, for instance, just tap "search delete message" and have this instantly :

Not a solution. You can't delete some specific folders like Camera, Photos, Books, etc. I use a computer to delete multiple files. It's faster and more convenient.
