    I really would like it.

BB10 is great but my old lumia had a much better hardware.

Porting BlackBerry to other hardware would be great.

I second that. But like the rest of the users are explaining. It won't be possible and it really makes sense.

    Awful example.

Windows machines, aka non-mac machines, can't run Mac because Apple has the process for installing their OS's locked down tight and only develop their drivers and backend software for specific models and units.

OP - this is like asking "Can you install Windows on a Mac computer" or "Can you install MacOS on an Intel PC".

    Different hardware - no way.

Except you can, I have windows installed and bootable on booth of my macs via bootcamp (not virtual machines) and I helped a friend build a Hackintosh (Mac OS X on a Custom built PC computer).

Most likely not. A lot of drivers need to be written for hardware to support an OS and BB10 has a low level of support from both BBRY the company as well as third party developers.

Even for Android, most custom ROMs are just (1) adjusting an existing ROM intended for the device or (2) porting a ROM from another phone by the same OEM (almost always with the same/very similar chipset). For example, you don't see LG phones with an HTC ROM, often.

EDIT: Theoretically, it's possible to run BB10 on any device. IRL from an pragmatic/economic perspective, it's not likely to ever happen even if BBRY released all the drivers.

If you frequent XDA, you'll discover that there are often "bounties" / promised donations amounting to thousands of dollars to get a specific thing done. Even then, the "bounty" is often never fulfilled!

    Actually you can do both

to OP. Probably it's possible to install BBOS in another device with similar specs to BB10, but shouldn't be easy, there's a lot of background stuff that probably has to be done and not worth the hassle.

People haver installed sucessfully Android on Iphones, and iOS in Android phones. probably with lots of bugs though

Impossible No, as I bet there are some versions at HQ that are doing just that...

But for the dedicated average hacker or general users... no I doubt it is possible - at least not a version that could fully work with the NOC.

Actually both Windows PC's and Macs are built on Intel hardware now and have been for some time and both can be installed depending on driver availability. But this is comparing apples and oranges, however when comparing to BB10, which is more like Macs in the old days when they were built on Power PC/Motorola chips and they were not at all compatible.

Rockin a Passport and Z30! Two devices are better than 1!

IF you got the source code, and IF you rewrote it to take out all the bits where it looks for specific hardware and then re compiled it to run on your device, perhaps. I'm no programmer as is probably obvious. But having rewritten it, it ceases to be BlackBerry OS

    Hi,

I was just wondering guys, would it be possible to install the BB10 OS on another device? And if it were possible (in theory) how would one approach this? Sorry if this question was already asked, I searched, but nothing popped up.
i had that thought some weeks ago...

In theory it could work but would be a lot of work.

BB10 is QNX with QT4.8/QML ontop.

It would probably be easier to take another os like Haiku-os a port it to pho pho replace the deskbar with qt. But t i will not be a bb10

You can't. BB10 is only available for BlackBerry devices, there's no way to install it on other hardware.

And FYI: Haiku already has a Qt port available for install. So it'd be very easy to implement a Qt deskbar.
