That comment identifies the problem, because it works over VPN where your data follows a different route and appears to come from a different location. Either your network provider or your region are being prevented from access.

However we don't know if the block is applied by BlackBerry preventing incoming traffic, or China preventing outbound traffic - and we don't know if it is a deliberate policy, or a misconfigured router somewhere in the internet path between you and BlackBerry servers. If it is deliberate it should hit every user in China. If it is a config problem it will only stop a small proportion who are routed through the broken router.

If you can't access ANY Blackberry related sites without VPN (not only blackberry.com, also third party sites like CrackBerry) it is likely the Great Chinese Firewall has been configured to block.

Check with your local internet vigilantes regarding The Great Firewall of China.

    You're welcome

I had problems accessing many different services when I was in China both with my BlackBerry or with my Ipad.

Generally speaking the web does not flow freely in China

This is probably your problem as well.
