I can see this happening if they choose to ignore the OHA. It's a pretty common thing for companies to do: wait until nobody expects it anymore and then do it.

    Android app's on BlackBerry OS10 ?
    Did I miss something?
Never used this runtime anyway, not using any of this APK nor Android ports in the 1st place!
Native BlackBerry and "built for BlackBerry " app's only, dose all and more what I ever need, even deleted the sys.android.shell.bar and everything running smoothly without overhanging bloat !
Sadly the sys.android.bar can't be erased, may later if BlackBerry decided for splitting Android completely off BB10 ones the house wife's privy thing coming out in the next few month, and gets away with a runtime in future release altogether :-P

Can someone tell me what is the reason to update the runtime? Apart from the comical design on lollipop and marshmallow and a so called art compiler which doesn't make any difference in real world usage, what is the major difference than the present JB 4.1.2 runtime?

We are perpetually stuck on JellyBean 4.3. 2/3 of Android users are on KitKat and above. It is only a matter of time that we will no longer have Android app support. The new MS Office suite is an example - no JellyBean support.

I would bet strongly against ever seeing an update. Lollipop would require substantial development, and there is no one left to do it, even if it was allowed - which it isn't imo.

What are you talking about? I use Docs To Go all the time but the new MS Office works fine on 10.3.2.2789 for me.

The older Microsoft Office Mobile app works fine. The newer, individual MS Office suite apps require KitKat.

Don't kid yourself people. BB10 is dead. Whatever Android runtime you have on your device is what you're stuck with. It's the PlayBook all over again.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

If the Priv goes bust, you will never see an update on that device either.

Matt, I think you're right if BB doesn't at least offer the Android OS option for the previous BB10 devices. It can be done, it just takes the will at BB. If they don't look after their mainstream customer base this time around, not only will BB10 be done, so will BB IMO. I've had BB's since the 7130, and have remained faithful up to my current z30, but if they don't do something for us this time, I like a lot or most of the present users will be gone and so will BB. Their call.... Do right or die. Simple choice.

No use spending huge dollars on developers you don't have, to fit a square peg into a round hole, for a handful of users (most of which are happy on BB10).

Marshmallow on a S4 CPU would not be pleasant.

Could be, but would it be worse than BB OS 10 with no new apps or BB support? I wouldn't think so.....

How well do you expect apps designed for quad, hexa and octacore processors and newer gpu's to run on the outdated hardware that BB is using, passport excepted. Apple and windows os run fine on dual core but android needs horsepower hence the bigger and bigger processors. My z10 running the latest update with very few apps and only 3 or 4 android apps is so slow compared to my G3,the lag is unacceptable. If you want apps and you want android buy android. Simple really. The Priv doesn't need a hexacore processor to run BlackBerry it does to run android.

Go to Google Play. Search for MS Word, or MS Excel. It says for Android v4.4 and above.

    From the Microsoft Office site:

    Attachment 376782

    Look under Android.

The older offering, MS Office Mobile, continues to be available for older devices like ours however.

Because their agreement with the OHA would prevent them from developing the Runtime any further.
Even if that wasn't the case: I wouldn't expect them to invest the money needed to implement the new runtime in BB10.
