Been using BlackBerry for more than half a decade. I always loved it for options it provided. Link for BB 10 does not have options to keep items like SMS, contacts, and settings separate in a backup file. If I want to backup just the contacts I cannot, I must take a backup of settings and calendar along with. And also to restore I must restore everything. This kinda sucks.

I don't remember whether the old BlackBerry Desktop Manager for had that capability either, if your "half a decade" experience goes back that far. May I suggest ContactsImEx in BlackBerry World if your real problem is not being able to backup contacts with BlackBerry Link.

I know what they mean. I always did a full back up on my legacy BlackBerries. Then I picked and chose what I wanted restored.

A full backup on BBOS would still allow you to pick up very, VERY specific bits of it and restore.

Link was a all or nothing solution. Now at least it allows you to pick up which apps...

Maybe it's just a matter of time for BlackBerry to mature OS 10 and Link to its former glory? At least for us CrackBerries.

SMS Backup app ($1.99). backup sms onto sd card. then restore from sd card on new phone.

Personally, I use Ultimate Backup. It will backup everything. Or just what you want it to backup. It costs a little more but is often free or on sale from time to time and the developer is proactive in releasing app updates and bug fixes.
