I did what was recommended in this thread, turned on sync for all of my folders so I can easily sort and label emails on phone or desktop. Great, but quite frequently, the same emails are showing up in my HUB 2-3-4 times when they come in. Any idea why? I'm constantly getting duplicate emails showing up now that I sync my folders..?

    Hi all,

A new thread was in order, I felt, for impact, just in case any BlackBerry employee is scouting these forums and they have any ounce of customer care left in them. I finally heard back from the BlackBerry technical support department.

Several of you have now noticed that starting since one, maybe two updates ago, BlackBerry Hub is now actually deleting your Gmails -- Deleting as in throwing them in the "trash" which is usually not where Gmail users desire mail they are finished with. At least not non-spam mail.

It used to archive them to "all mail," and users who wanted true deleting could slightly tweak the Gmail Web settings to do so -- no big deal.

Well now, BlackBerry has stated that true deleting is the intended function and there is no work-around...

I rely on Gmail and archiving. I can't file to all mail - it is not even an option for a folder to sync, and it isn't an option to map that folder in the account settings for what delete does. You could try creating a new label and see if it would let you put mail there, but that's a whole convention to set and too much of a hassle.

Am I mad? Not really. Thank you BlackBerry for making my transition to Android full-time easier and more satisfying since you pulled the plug on BlackBerry 10 anyway. And will I buy your suites for Android or your Android phone? Not a chance in hell if you cannot even suit Gmail users properly. The Hub is great, don't get me wrong, but having it not work properly defeats the whole purpose of a more convenient inbox. I will stick to Android notifications plus "all inboxes" feature that their app has.

    Wiedersehen!

What the hell are you talking about? I'm honestly confused by this, as I haven't had any issues with that.

My alumni e-mail is my only Google e-mail, but it handles that very well. Doesn't your Gmail synchronise through Exchange Activesync? It appears to work almost as well as my work Outlook e-mail. And lastly, it actually asks me if I want to delete an e-mail only from the hub or on both the hub and the server. You probably chose the former option and hit never ask me again, but never bothered to change that huh.

The following screenshot is shown right from the delete option of a message received through that aforementioned Gmail account.

Could it be the case that you have one of their pull mail protocols in lieu of EAS?

Seriously? You didn't read ANY of this thread, did you? I won't bother explaining to you what is already spelled out here about what the problem is - just go back and read if you are really interested. Clue - the OP addresses your exact "remedy" several times within this thread.

As it was before, it was a bug
I personally fought and opened bug reports on the BlackBerry bug tracker.
When I delete an email from the hub, I want it deleted, not archived.
Yep, I agree. To accommodate all they would need to do is make the All Mail "folder" visible to file to, and I think that would satisfy everyone. When you file to there simply have the "Inbox" label removed on Gmail, etc. Just emulate what others have done to give feature parity.

Very doubtful; any new devices activated in quite a while now on FREE Gmail have to use IMAP. No EAS.

lmao. Lack of marketing? It was the only reason I gave. Well let's see, when I'm forced watching a TV I usually see at least one samsung and one iphone commercial, at least one and I don't watch TV a lot but there they are every time. I see iphone and Samsung billboards, posters on Carriers windows... I have yet to see a BlackBerry commercial or billboard. Americans are big time brainwashed idiots who buy what they are told to. BlackBerry isn't telling them to buy a BlackBerry so they aren't. Apple and Samsung are telling people to buy their phones and they are. So I'm sticking to lack of marketing as the reason.

    BBClassic10.3.2.2639-799Radio
Well there is a reason BlackBerry does not spend ad dollars on consumer ads, right? I mean they have teams of folks whom -- all day long focus on marketing and advertising. So that should tell you something. It should tell you that they have found the money they spend has little effect due to other issues with the products. Marketing follows good products that adequately meet needs. It doesn't create demand from nothing. It creates awareness once you have something that is worthy of folks being aware about.

Unless a company lies. They can make false claims, sell some phones -- only to see them returned to the carrier stores. Which in turn makes it all the harder the next time to convince the carriers to feature new products.

So I noticed you did not answer my other post. If I have favorably shown my BlackBerrys, a Tour, A Curve, a Bold 9930, a Torch 9850, a PlayBook, a Z10, and a Passport to friends/family and co-workers over the last 6 years, why would it be that not a single one of those people has ever bought a BlackBerry product? We're talking up close demos here, from me, a BB expert pretty much. You think some 30 second ad would work better at getting attention than up close personal testimonials from enthusiasts? You think my 0.0% conversion rate pitching to 30+ people is just a fluke?

Well, you aren't a very good sales man apparently. And yes I believe a 30 second ad on the TV is much more effective than word of mouth. People, in the US anyway, are very um brainwashed and listen to their master, the TV, to tell them what they need or want. Look back to my mind control post on the other page for my reasoning behind this. And seeing how nobody knows about bb10 in the US it's hard, impossible to sell them something they don't exists.

These are competing companies and maybe Google wants to keep the "All Mail" feature for Android phones. If I read correctly I don't think the ios has the label/folder either.

Either way it sucks for functionality for those that use it. I hope the community finds something that can fix this problem.

That's a strange bug.I suggest removing the account, rebooting with the top bottom and then adding it again. Should get things working properly.

This unfortunately does not work if you have an account added via Google Apps for Work through the Exchange option. It just comes up with an error "Folder Management is not supported for this account". It only works if you have an @gmail.com account or if you added it via the @gmail.com option from what I can see. What a shame. 3 of my 4 accounts are GAFW. My school, work, and business personal accounts are all GAFW. Meh :/
Must be either how Google has implemented it, or how the administrator has configured it. This works on my non-google EAS accounts, and all my Google Apps accounts that are not EAS (and are also not @gmail.com.

In light of the quick exchange I had with a support person today (THANKS STEPHANY!!!), I'd say checking the Admin Dashboard's settigns could really pay off royally.

Wasn't taken out by Google. It shows up in most other IMAP client app (I provided a pretty big list pages and pages ago). This is BB10 specific.

Paid Google Apps (Work, Education, Gov't) accounts have IMAP and EAS support. Legacy Google Apps (ie Free) accounts only support IMAP (unless you have a device which was grandfathered in prior to 2013 - but let's call that an edge case right now). Gmail (@gmail.com) accounts also only support IMAP.

If I recall correctly, the Google implementation of EAS either doesn't expose or support all the EAS features. Hence the reason IMAP/CalDAV/CardDAV combo is usually considered the best solutiion.

I don't think the OP wants to archive any mail. They want to be able to delete from the inbox and then access it, when needed, through the All Mail label which doesn't show up as a label on BlackBerry. Seems strange.

Except it is an IMAP directory.
Well, nope. The "All Mail label" is a special-use directory to be exact (RFC 6154 from 2011). That means that the content is the result of a special query created by the email provider. It's the same thing for Drafts, Sent Mail, Spam, Starred and Trash directories. These last ones are pretty common at a great number of provider. The "All Mail" is specific to Google though, and in my opinion, I'm really glad that the BlackBerry HUB doesn't list it. Why ? Because it means that every emails have to be duplicated. It's pure nonsense. If you don't understand this last part, read how the IMAP protocol works. Even with an IMAP ID, the duplication is still here. Except if you develop a special client for this special provider... For now, download the Google one if you want it.

That said, this long thread contains already all answer for the OP. "Delete functionality now delete effectively an email", and "Archive is here to file one in a new mapped directory". And by the way, of course a "filed" email is not anymore in the Inbox directory, but if you use the GMAIL web client, you will still find it under the all God Mighty "All Mail label" (As you understand now that this "label" is a meta-query gathering all mails from every directory, except the special-use "Trash" one).

Hope this thread will stop growing. Because, I saw only ranting from OP and the ones that loves to bash.

I'm sorry, but we are talking about more than a BILLION people, compared to the 10m currently on BB10. I think the majority of users have decided that a proper one-click "archive" option is needed. BlackBerry can ignore that, or not. Up to them. But if they ignore that, then the HUB won't be as successful as they need it to be when they make the jump to Android.
But Google don't offer the hub experience, do they ?
So, either choose the gmail client or accept hub constraints (btw, there are few others, like reply in reply for Google) is also an acceptable answer.

I don't pretend the HUB under BB10 cannot be perfected, it is perfectible, by nature. Still, to achieve an experience that is not only relevant for engineers or tricks specialists, there are some concessions to be made to preserve consistency.
Believe me, if ever Google wanted BlackBerry to support this feature, it'll be "just" an API away. But Google wants you to use their client [insert the reason you believe the most relevant here].

Now, what will be the HUB or its copycat under Android is another topic, actually pure speculation, as it seems there are several other points that need to be cleared out, like the antagonism with the native notification system or the gestures, to name the obvious.

And no, I don't use Gmail. Err, yes, I use it for google logins, random and adverting driven sites with a redirection to a changing (once a year or so) basic IMAP address ... But that's it. An alias.

Tell me how RFC 6154 relates to RFC 3501 and the same code snippet provided in the Google example? I'll give you a hint - look at page 40.

People who already use BlackBerry and expected this behaviour are very unlikely to switch (with one possible exception)

New users will never have experienced the old, confusing use of delete, will use a label to archive, and won't care one little bit.

I refrained the first time but you pushed lol. I get what you're saying as I too have been pushing ppl towards BlackBerry with no success. Everyone who plays with my phone loves it and complain constant about their android phone then run out and get another android phone, and I'm saying 100%, it's because the TV told them too. Also you can't walk in to a store to buy a BlackBerry because nobody carries them in store. So they see these flashy android signs and phones all nicely displayed and forget they have other options. Same thing with any other type of nonGoogle phone like the Amazon phone that isn't sold in stores or advertised all over the TV and flopped because of it.
They keep buying Android phones because the positives outweigh the negatives and Android keeps on improving.

Even if BlackBerry did advertising, the problem is still going to be what I highlighted in what you wrote. BlackBerry needs to get the carriers and stores on board, then advertise.
