BlackBerry.... BB10, BlackBerry Android and John Chen
- That's true that there is no BlackBerry OS phones now but to keep BlackBerry's ego the company have to create a new BB os phone to keep the OS running which is a fantastic OS. Android in a BlackBerry phone looks like a pirated CD. Aside profits there are many ways for BlackBerry to make money but they should be proud for the BlackBerry OS they have made.
Is there any way to appeal at BlackBerry for this? Can we make any survey or like that to approach at the BlackBerry for keeping live the beautiful OS? Can we contribute (hahaha, I know the amount will be like 'pinch of salt in sea')?
Can't imagine how to keep this OS alive!!

BlackBerry could survey the market of existing devices and pick one VKB (KEYone not likely a good choice) to put in BB10. No hardware R&D and mostly driver development and software Q&A.
They prove themselves as a software company by using someone else's hardware design. Make this portable OS version 10.3.4 fulfilling their promise.
In two years repeat when TCL may have a suitable PKB or remove advertisement for BB10 from their website).06-20-17 12:46 PMLike 0 - I would be happy to have an up-to-date unbranded BB10 device. They still advertise BB10 on their website, there must be a reason.

- Regarding the BB10 OS, if you love it for what it does, use it now, while its still great and phones are olentiful and cheap. Nothing lasts forever, but you should get another 1-3 great years for all native functions.

BlackBerry would chose from devices soon to be or are already on the market benefiting from third parties' hardware R&D and the cost benefits of volume production of hardware that is targeted to Android buyers.
BlackBerry is a software company after all and would do the software R&D and QA to get BB10 working on the chosen third party device. This would likely include new boot firmware to support hardware root of trust on Snapdragon SoCs.
These devices with BB10 would be ordered and sold direct to customers by BlackBerry. These BB10 devices would not be BlackBerry branded anymore than Samsung Galaxy devices are Android branded.06-21-17 04:41 PMLike 0 - I never suggested BlackBerry make new phones only how a software company could get their software into devices when the licensing route is clearly not an option:

In 2017 there are much better things for BlackBerry to invest in in industries that are growing a lot faster than mobile phones.

They no longer have a systems or sales force to sell the hardware. The biggest question about your post is why would they want to sell phones. It took BlackBerry years to finally sell off their old BB10 inventory. They lost a lot of money on BB10, why would they be successful now?06-21-17 11:21 PMLike 0
- You are asking for two things that are impossible: BlackBerry spending even another nickel on BB10, and significant numbers of customers suddenly becoming interested in a dead platform.06-21-17 11:29 PMLike 0

But this is an other history...
Posted via CB1006-22-17 01:43 AMLike 0 - Ok you got some reason but the bb10 remain the best platform on the market...IOS is just trying to emulate all made by BlackBerry ( by ex. No touch button..., multitasking etc) . JC should think before make anything. He is a big manager but perhaps he should think to another deal. Android is not the solution...IMHO ...and bb10 also just dead if they should make some native app and extend the development system to other languages like java or. .Net....at at finally make a decent advertising campaign now we have all without compromise.
But this is an other history...

I still don't understand why you think BlackBerry would want to sell phones again. What is in it for BlackBerry?06-22-17 04:23 PMLike 0 - Selling products in the consumer space is so completely different from what RIM was good at. They were a secure messaging service sold to enterprises, and the handsets were just the endpoint.
Once BYOD started, and BlackBerry had to function like Apple, Samsung, LG, etc., selling and servicing individual consumers through multiple retail channels instead of fleet/carrier sales, they were in a hopeless position against those behemoths.
It doesn't matter who manufactures the phones. BlackBerry should NOT try to sell them!
Going back to that business would be like moving back in with an abusive spouse after getting a divorce and getting established in a new city!

Software is a scale business. Most of the costs are fixed. So your ability to make a profit in any software business is highly scale dependent.
So how many of these BB10 re-runs do you think they would actually sell?stlabrat likes this.06-22-17 06:26 PMLike 1 - Plus "reselling other companies' device designs" requires the entire distribution, marketing, sales, and support infrastructure to be completely rebuilt. Ludicrous.06-22-17 06:41 PMLike 0
