If the Geneva Convention now applies to cyberspace,
It applies to torture. And I was talking about the metaphor. Being metaphorically tortured.

Oh, wait, were you going for a meta-metaphor? Now I'm truly impressed. Or possibly confused. Either way, well done, sir!

You're welcome! I aim to please!

(Well, I aim to support Blackberry 10, the PlayBook, and BBOS...but I aim to please as much as possible while doing that. )

Asset buyers were impressed with Chen? Like... "yes, I'd like to buy that building on the cheap but that rascally Chen is so talented a negotiator I'm going to pay way above market. Heck, that guy could sell anything!"

Or how about... "Chen is so good at selecting staff to lay off to save money. He's so good at firing people. He waits until after Christmas but not a day longer than necessary"?

Nobody was going to pay asking price or anything close when company was in distressed status. Look the guy is recognized as turnaround specialist. Prem took a risk with his capital infusion to BlackBerry. Hindsight is 20/20 and Chen didn’t have the luxury in the beginning.

    Oh, please.

The extra $billion would have been gone in a matter of months without a firm new business plan.

"Rob Enderle, president at Enderle Group said Chen did, in fact, do the impossible, and is certainly deserving of his contract renewal."

"Rob Enderle is an American technology analyst.

Enderle has worked at several technology companies, including EMS Development Company, ROLM Systems and IBM, before becoming a technology analyst. He began his analyst career at Dataquest, before helping to launch GiGa Information Group. After GiGa was acquired by Forrester Research, he worked at Forrester until leaving to found his own firm, the Enderle Group.

Enderle writes a number of columns for technological publications and regularly appears on radio and television. He sits on several advisory councils, including those for Lenovo, AMD and HP. He shares a technology blog at Technology Pundits. He has worked as an advisor for Microsoft, Dell, IBM, Siemens, and Intel, among other companies."

    Just Google this guy.

You've pointed this article out to me before and I responded. Let's not duplicate what we've said to that degree. I'll start to think I'm spending too much time debating about a discontinued OS.

That I agree with.... in the end it doesn't matter who's fault it was or why it happen. The result are what they are. BB10 fans can try to use it for how ever long they can, but in the end BB10's best days are behind it.

Oh, geez. And why does it bother anyone that we still use it?

"You know, Billy, your granddad was a great man, but he's old and he's going to die real soon."

"You keep saying that but I want to play ball with him."

"But, Billy, he's not as good at ball as your mean Uncle Victor who is much healthier."

"But I don't like Uncle Victor and granddad plays nice."

"Your granddad is going to die soon."

    Billy: [Sigh.]

But none of your posts, or any of the responses, are about one's preference for using BB10.

They're almost all about Chen being dumb, or mistakes Blackberry made, or how stupid Android is, or how BB10 will live forever, etc.

If people just said "I like BB10 and will stick with it as long as I can", you wouldn't hear a peep from anyone.

    1) You're 100% right that most of the armchair CEO musings about why BB10 failed are naive fantasies, and it's very hard not to respond when people make absurd assertions without any basis in fact, when the facts are easily retrieved.

    2) You're not correct that there aren't people who make equally asinine negative comments about BB10, dismissing its continuing utility to a mainstream business use case centered on written email communications and PIM. You're not one of them, and neither are any of the other CB Ambassadors, but there are others who respond to almost every post about BB10 with the "BB10 is obsolete. Switch to Android/iOS" response.

I'm not excusing it, but it's usually in response to questions like "how do I get this app to work", or "why can't I have a BBM group with Android users", or "I can't make a backup with Link" , etc.

But I'll accept that there are a few drive-by naughty posters.

That's an accurate description. It's painful to see posts from people who don't understand the inescapable limitations of BB10 in 2018 asking for help with modern Android apps or cross-platform BBM use, and it's important to educate them. Sometimes I wish that was done with more patience and respect, but, at the end of the day, this is an Internet forum about technology.

I'm one of those guys I think. I love my classic and bb10, never got any heat for it ever. Who cares what do I use anyway? Nobody else has to deal with it. Heck I'm sorry for what happened, if I had any good plans to revive bb10 I'd start right away. I don't tho.
Conite's right on this one. If you have a question about bb10 you'll even find help from the more experienced. But don't hate away Coz that's what you'll get back. I feel you brother, but let's be in this together not against each other for silly reasons that happened in the past.

My comments about past management decisions in the BB10 forums are today always in response to someone making an assertion of opinion about business and marketing events as fact -- sometimes based on assumptions that are represented as fact. I think all this misleads others into thinking that there is only one opinion and it's vexing.

Most that share my opinion have left CB already. I don't want others to leave because that weakens the forums and might shorten my use of BB10.

Really? How often does this really happen? And how old are we? Does it really take that much patience when someone from the other side of the world writes in poor English that he wants to use a certain Android app? Big deal. No one is asking for snarky comments.

They moved on to other devices.... and in general the need for a "community" to help with Android and iOS devices is also waning. Again, much like the PC market as it matured.

Your opinion. Some people have posted that they quit these boards due to what they perceived as anti-BB10 trolling. (Maybe they really just fell in love with Android and didn't want to admit it.)

Although hindsight is 20-20, pretty much everything I've been saying (and some others) for almost four years has been fully corroborated by industry analysts, former employees, f/s, suppliers, and even the CEO himself.

In all that time, you've never presented a shred of evidence beyond what you felt in your gut.

While there may be some very small fuzzy bits, all the big pieces are generally accepted now as to what happened.

When you wish to make a comment please quote the person you wish to respond to. I see that you are new so tap on the "quotation " icon " bottom right of the person's message then add your comment below his/hers. This way we all know who it is that your asking " what the hell are you talking about!!!?" . Unless you are responding to all of us, of course lol.

Just for grins, and only since conite is directly referencing markmall: conite, why do you care what people think about Chen, mistakes Blackberry made, how stupid Android is, or how BB10 will live forever? You're on record numerous times as saying BB never had a shot past 2006 and you are of the belief that BB10 is going to die anyway no matter what anyone does, so why does it bother you what other people think?
