Have been struggling with my classic to install the android - finally after formatting my phone once, after seeing an error message (after 24 hours of formatting time), after going to a blackberry support center to load the OS, I have finally been able to load play store. several apps working and several not. Cobalts have been a champ! (I must say) but I havent been able to fix things 100% after a weeks effort (still unable to fix the bug of uninstalling!!. I have written to BB technical support too but no luck I am seriously thinking of giving of Classic and Take a Priv (I am addicted to keypad).I hope I am not doing a mistake

Correct. However, many of the loyal BlackBerry users here at CrackBerry do not understand this.

That's why you downsize, and accept what Bentley learned, "I'm not made for the masses so the few I sell have to be perfect..."
The cost of developing, maintaining, and supporting a mobile OS, does not scale small enough for BB10 to come even close to profitability.

I'd guesstimate a small team of quality developers, capable of maintaining the OS and it's security has about a million dollar a year budget. You can only downsize so far, before crippling operations, failing by cheaping out.
5 developers to maintain a whole OS?

Actually more like 2 developers, since you need a Project Manager, Business Analyst and a QA. And one of the developer is the UI dev as well. lollllllllllll ;-)

They haven't officially EOL'd the BBOS devices yet, either (correct me if I'm wrong).

BlackBerry's demise as a company started at least 10 years, due mainly to poor execution of pretty much everything (triggered by an overstayed welcome of Balsaillie and Lazaridis). And BB10 is their latest in a continuing series of blunders. And it's too bad, because BB10 is an underappreciated OS that not enough people know about (partly since a lot of people don't know that BB still exists and still makes phones), and the Z10, Z30, and Passports have all been great BB10 products.

I love BB10 and now have quite a collection of BlackBerry phones and switch between them quite regularly, I'll use them for as long as I can and if BlackBerry don't release any more then I'll just have to look at what's available at that time.

I'm ready to call it quits on my Passport and BB10 OS.

Unless they can update the Android runtime, BB10 is about as relevant as Jelly Bean Android. It's just too much of a hassel to get my Pebble watch working properly. Then there's Android apps loading speed and performance is a very poor. I'm basically using the Passport for the form factor, which I really love.

    I'm itching for that Priv.

    UPDATE:
Just found a used Priv in Like New condition from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $330. I really hope it's not the AT&T unlocked. Being from the Amazon Warehouse, it SHOULD be the full factory unlocked model.
BB10 and the Passport will be a tech showpiece on my shelf with the Z30 once my Priv comes in.

The physical phones will remain functional for calls and texts for years onward though. Ignore trolls and dramatic FUD spreaders.
So, BB10 devices won't be dead, they'll just cease being smartphones and become feature phones? That's great...

I really like Blackberry and their commitment to PKB....but since the blunder with Storm and later on Torch (which is my first BB phone), Blackberry has been on the downhill....

Make no mistake, BB10 is a TREMENDOUS OS to work with (I've been handling my parents Lumia@Windows 8, and have Ipad to compare) and truly the OS speaks simplicity and ease-to-use no-nonsense.....yet, I cannot work without the core messaging app like Whatsapp terminating their support. (I'm not snob enough to urge all my contacts to use BBM just to contact me, lol)

Where is the Blackberry in my teenage years that touted itself as a trendy, social-media, messaging powerhouse?

So goodbye my 2 years old Q10, going to break my bank for a Priv. (For all it's weaknesses, it's the only smartphone with a PKB)

Not enough people were buying them anyway, so why prolong the pain?
OS 7.1 was dead when OS10 was out, and they released BlackBerry 9720 to the market, so hope is the last you lose
