BB never said anything about September or October 2016 to my recollection. If anything, the August 2016 thread is the relevant one wrt their last broken promise for bb10

'The hunt for 10.3.3 in october' - wasn't that a film with Sean Connery ?

On a more serious note - for a company focussed solely on software - they have a pretty p**s poor record.

Most of the software they are focused on... isn't BlackBerry software, except by acquisition.

That was "the hunt for the red October" but we may rename it "the hunt for the BlackBerry October"

The OS is not a mess, you're a mess. You're running a dev version (or beta, as some like to call it) which isn't supposed to be stable.

A few months ago I would have argued that there is a glimmer of hope.. but I seems to me that they are doing everything in their power to destroy the consumer brand. I cant see these latest headsets selling any significant numbers. They sacrificed several million loyal fans to gain a few hundred thousand android people. I would bet any amount of money a single properly designed BB10 device could have brought them back from the dead. I feel still a BB10 device would outsell all the DTEK and Priv devices combined.
Yes! They had a loyal BB10 following hungry to upgrade. Millions of people. They would have sold a lot of Z40s if they had bothered. At least compared to this DTEK nonsense. They would not even have to advertise. Just sell them on the website. The fact that Chen thinks he can sell DTEK phones without advertising them is just incredible.

I seem to recall that BlackBerry acquired a company called QNX so that they could build a new mobile phone platform. So, let's not act like all the acquisitions don't matter. Why start from complete scratch when someone has done all the startup work for you? The software still has to be integrated into the company's offerings.

The acquisitions... like QNX are where all the software value are. BlackBerry without the experience and expertises of all these acquisitions.. would be almost worthless today. What's really too bad is that BlackBerry didn't allow QNX to build their new Operating System.... Two years befroe BB10 was release we had PlayBook OS and it was so much less... BlackBerry.

Never understood the "waiting for NIAP" thing. Correct me if I'm wrong but can't BlackBerry release anything they want to and then proudly announce its certs after it receives them?

BlackBerry should just announce that for consumers, there won't be any more OS updates because the waiting process is too difficult for consumers to deal with; that way, there's a definitive answer.

Meanwhile, enterprise gets a few updates...
