Does it use up more battery?

I'm guessing you have a BB10 device? In the soon-to-be-released 10.3.1 (or if you're already running the leak) you can set Bedside mode to go into battery-saving mode automatically. As well - you can have bedside mode turn off the radios, location services, and some other power saving methods can kick in as well.
Bedside mode is perfect for saving battery but allowing you to sleep. It works best as sort of a digital alarm clock if you are in the (very good) habit of charging up overnight.
Unless there's some feature or attribute about that I haven't caught onto, which is possible lol, I don't really see the utility benefits of bedside mode for the 10.2.X builds. There doesn't seem to be many customizable settings for what you want your phone to do while in it, it's just swiping down a black screen from an active lock screen. I was expecting it to be similar to the DND mode of an iphone. What am I missing?

I certainly have 10.2.3062. I observed that it used up a lot of battery overnight compared to when I don't switch it on. Maybe it's not yet functional properly in the 10.2

All the features BBOS had. Partly, bedside mode is nothing really more then what the name suggests. I way to turn your phone into a bedside clock.
It really needs a lot more options though.
This explains a lot. It feels good to know that I understand all of it's uses lol. I had 3 legacy devices prior to coming to BB10 so I was definitely expecting more from the bedside mode. I hope they fulfill some of those expectations with the 10.3.X builds.

Yes, odd isn't it. It does seem to use a lot of battery, even with the screen dimmed and sitting there doing nothing.

I really thought that bedside mode would save up battery overnight. But then it's not really that way.
Blackberry 10 device.
I use bedside mode with the screen locked. I don't need the clock but do want the alarm to go off in the morning. Since I have it set to shut down cell and wifi, it hardly uses any battery at all.

I too have noticed adequate battery drain using Bedside Mode, I have the radios off. It appears that Location Services stay on which is what I'm guessing could be using up battery. I'm going to do some experimenting and I'll update this comment.

They didn't :(
Atleast not on any of the leaks I've seen. I'm STILL WAITING for them to add the BBOS ability to have it automatically enter bedside mode when plugged in @annoyed

Yeah. When plugged in it drops down a little cewnter bar to let you swipe down, but no way to do it automatically.

Maybe not customizable in 10.2.1. But it stops all noises from coming in to the phone. Unless you turn on Phone calls. Then they will come through. It works great for me at night. No annoying notifications for test, email. Etc. But if emergency phone call I would get it. And alarm goes off in the morning

Exactly! I just don't understand why people can't grasp the simple concept of this. And just plug the dang thing into the charger!

If you don't want to receive anything from your phone, use the flight mode. If not, at least try to use the 2G network and disable the WIFI+Data connection, so it wil only use the signal to receive calls (if you enable it).
check out the settings in the native clock app. swipe down.
Wireless settings in bedside mode on/off
and you can choose to only receive calls
Changing this setting reduced my overnight bedside mode battery drain from 26% down to 4%. Thanks Plutoforplanet!
