I brag about how great my BlackBerry is to everyone and that they are blind but I have a. Problem with BBM. I tried to start a group chat and had my iPhone and Android buddies install BBM on their phones but it would not allow them to delete the chats on their end when they may have needed to. Or maybe it was the pictures. Ok it was a chat that rated the hottest chick's so they didn't want to get caught lol. It lacks controls is the bottom line. We were forced to use WhatsApp and it accommodated our needs fine.
Last night my wife pointed out that she could go in a section in her Phone that congregated all the photos in their conversations in one place. I thought BBM did that? Not finding this on my BlackBerry Passport. I know my Passport does it with our WhatsApp pictures so why not BBM?

Does anyone have knowledge of this and if it can be done with the pictures and or have any other gripes about how BlackBerry is letting their bread and butter slide? I swear the old BlackBerry OS style phones did keep the pics all in one place for the whole conversations. Pretty sure....

Click the three vertical dots on the right side when looking at your pictures and decide where you want to store it.

WhatsApp just stores the pictures on your device and you have to do housekeeping here and then.

I appreciate that BBM allow me to control where stuff goes on my device (or on the SD card).

    FWIW

Very little competition, whatsapp has clearly leap frogged BBM in how it handles things and works, BBM has little going for it relative to whatsapp.

With pictures.. BBM does the same but does it within the app which I wish whatsapp did. Whatsapp downloads the picture to your phone which I hate. Especially if it's a dodgy picture like your group must have. Once you open up your pictures the picture is there for everyone to see. I really wish whatsapp would adopt the BBM way cos I've opened up my pictures album to show a friend one and a naughty picture is right there for them to see.

For deleting chats.. they have to select END CHAT. When the open bbm no need to enter the chat itself. Just long press on it in the list of all messages and select END CHAT.

I hope BBM doesn't implement what you're asking for. I wouldn't want to have the pics shared on BBM to appear on my file manager or pictures section. Just in the BBM app.

I know you're worried about group chats, but
nothing better than a quick "end chat" in a one-on-one chat to make images in that chat magically disappear from the device lol

Yeah, I don't know if you really want BBM to work any differently than it already does... I suppose it would be alright if they implemented an option to auto-save pictures and allowed you to specify the folder but it's actually nice not having to worry about crappy pictures that your contacts share with you just for kicks starting to crowd your picture folders. This way you only save the ones that you want to keep and you choose where to save them. I don't really see a problem.

I do wish that the HD photos didn't show as a new post but rather overlayed the original photo send. That's a bit off-topic though...

Do you use WhatsApp at all?

Here is what happens. WhatsApp stores the photos and videos in the same location whether on the device or media card. The main folder's location remains the same day after day, in other words it is not like the main folder is here on Monday, there on Tuesday or over there on Wednesday, etc.

Now, within this main folder there are sub folders for each month where the photos and videos are allocated to. So when you open the Pictures app, you get to see that WhatsApp has been optimized to organize these photos and videos to take advantage of the Picture app's management. This is what WhatsApp is good at, hopefully this is clear enough for you to see.

Super clear to see and everyone saw it the same way from the start. Organizing in folders and the management of such isn't the issue we're talking about here.

The "housekeeping" is the having to get rid of those images from the device. Having the images only be within the BBM is the way some of us prefer.
If having an image appear on the file system, then we have the option to "save" it.

I'm all for improving BBM and having it get cool new features. I personally, just hope it doesn't go down this route.

Oh I see. I've been looking for the option with single chats and had only had a multi person chat setup briefly but that was a long time ago. And yes if it does congregate the pictures in one place I too would prefer to have it within the app. I don't know why it wouldn't do this for single chats?

And Thank you you all for understanding my crappy post and explaining. Much appreciated!

Housekeeping photos is still best done by the Picture app, unless one can tell from the file name what that picture is and the app that saves the picture allows you to also give the picture a meaningful name. But if one prefers the picture to be embedded as part of a message, that would be a good way of hiding porn I guess. It could be a different story altogether when you deal with a set of photos.

Ok so question: I can't remember exactly what the problem was but when in a group chat can members of the chat delete their side of the chat or the pictures for good? I do know we had an issue and only the admin of the chat could do it. This is why we had to resort to WhatsApp

I suggest you consider ... Blackberry devices are sold and used on a global scale, and that our thread op's first language may NOT be English and their doing the very best they can. Let's see you type a cohesive clear and concise topic in Swahele?! (spelled wrong but for attention you may catch my drift).
