I'm using Q10 on 10.2, it's been bugging me for month now. This is one of the standard feature on pretty much all of the smartphones, why isn't it on BB10 phones?

At first i thought maybe it's just q10, so i went to local mobile stores to try out the q5, z10. the screen brightness doesn't change for any of them, no matter you're out there in the blazing sun or in a complete dark room.

is there a solution for this currently?

    thanks

My Z10 changes. If I put my finger over the sensors for example, it gets dim. Release, and it brightens again.

Put your hand over the sensors. It is there .

I just tested on my Z10 and first I did not believe it worked, but a little searching showed the device does contain a light sensor and a fixed algorithm which should be very carefully designed.

    So, back to testing...

I got the idea that full brightness might be a bad test case so I set the slider approx in the middle while the device.

If I put my device under a lamp (bright) the display is rapidly getting brighter and if I move the device out of the light and cover the sensor the screen gets dimmer.

So it works but is far less obvious than on the old BlackBerry devices. I find it very elegant.

All BB10 devices have light sensors that will brighten the screen in daylight and darken the screen in dim light. Works great on my Z10. What kind of tests did you run?

I always shut auto brightness off on my old android phone because I found it annoying. I don't think there is an option to shut it off on BB10, but I have never been bugged by the way it works by default.

    Heads up...the STL100-1 doesn't have the brightness auto-adjuster.

    Mmm...CB10! Just the tip though...

BlackBerry 10's auto brightness is amazing. The algorithms are designed so that you set your ideal brightness you want in the settings. So go inside and set it to you're liking. The theory is that no matter the lighting condition (outside, dark room, or whatever) the "perceived" brightness is the same. Obviously there are limitations as the screen can only go so bright. I do wish the screens could be dimmer though. Other than that it works great.

It works, but perhaps not as much as desired. My 9700 brightened much more than my Q10.

well the test i did was turn the brightness to lowest, then walk outside and i can't see a thing from the screen.
the other test was to turn brightness to max, walk into my bathroom and turn all the lights off so i'm in a pitch black room, it stays extremely bright, hurts your eyes looking at it.

Tried covering the sensor, nothing seem to change at all.
