    Let's think about the squircle.

    What is the squircle?

Why it's derivative of the loading screen on BB10.

    But it predates that.

It is, in short, THE SHAPE OF THE TRACKPAD THEY HAVE DECLARED OBSOLETE.

As a unrepentant "the TrackPad is sorely missed and a BlackBerry without it is a pale imitation of all that made BlackBerry devices great" advocate, seeing that squircle in the previous BB10.2 leak was kind of like rubbing salt in the wound.

"Oh, you'll never get a BB10 device with a TrackPad, because we're going to make you suffer until WE have a brainstorm and figure out how to make BB10 TrackPad-less editing as good as BBOS devices."

rather than the SOUND business decision which is:

"Ok, here's the BB10 device you want with a TrackPad and hard buttons... and also, here's a BB10 device WITHOUT the TrackPad and hard buttons... you, consumer, are free to choose which one you like best!"

So, for BlackBerry, strategically, putting a GUI component that just says "SCREW YOU!" to your ardent fans is, um, not recommended.

In fact, I'm surprised they have the bahllz do use it at all. It would be kind-of like Microsoft calling everything "XP" when Vista was out and loathed by all. Or for Coca-Cola to talk about how excellent the old formula was after they released new Coke.... or for Disney to talk about how they're going to do an "all Jar-Jar Binks" spinoff of Star Wars.

Stupid business decisions aren't new, and most of the time you don't need years of evidence or an MBA to spot one.

BlackBerry? Yoo Hoo... THE TRACKPAD IS USEFUL, PRODUCE BB10 DEVICES THAT HAVE A TRACKPAD PLEASE!

Then you can reclaim the squircle.

Is very dangerous to tempt the squircle! Bad luck for 7 years and could cause you to brick your brain.

    um I guess so ,,,,

but to my mind it looks like the shape of the loading animation that starts the phone at boot.

so your saying they are rubbing your nose in every time you boot up.

I'm not one to live in the past but I do like some retro stuff and retro done intelligently can be timeless. So i'm going with the positive thoughts because I get so confused. lol

Edit: I would add the trackpad shape comes from a BlackBerry design before the trackpad so the trackpad stole the shape so the shape is not beloning to the trackpad it is belonging to BlackBerry so they can still use it even after the the use of it with the trackpad so I think they can still use it when they want because it is really a core design element of the BlackBerry design theme and they keep stylizing it moving forward.

    Hows that for an idea?

I don't know nothing about this stuff ( user interface design )

But I do design as it relates to how people feel in another field.

I'm sure the design guys at BB are responding to the people that are confused when they see an element like the activities and progress animation that is at the tip of sword of UI design.

Some people don't handle change well at all. They are so use to the same elements being the same from one application to the next and frankly there is real argument that keeping things consistent is a good idea. It makes things feel right and keeps things moving along.

I just think that the squircle is a good place to start moving the next level in design. Things can't stay still.

The squircle needs some color or something. Lets keep moving forward with it and improve it!

    Imho

The squircle is a wonderful memorizing thing.

It helps calm babies to sleep.

It releases tensions from a stressful day.

It can tame a wild beast.

    One can meditate to it.

You can compose classical music to it.

You can sit and rock with your elderly mother while looking at it.

You can paint the next master piece that hangs in the Guggenheim museum with it spinning.

You can invent the time travel as it it opens a black hole.

You can make mad wild love as the spinning is an aphrodisiac.

The list is only limited by your imagination.
