What is the deal? Is BB10 dead or not? Are they still going to try to make it better? I don't understand...I want to buy a Passport but have been holding off thinking that it wouldn't make sense to buy into a ecosystem that was dying

There's no definitive word from BlackBerry, so no one knows for sure. What we do know is that phones with BB10 still work.

Yeah 10.3.3 isn't going to change anything about the ecosystem. If only need communication and BBM get the passport. You need anything else get a priv

Bb10 is not on the priority list of BlackBerry at the moment. 10.3.2. is a great OS . The OS is blessed with the Passport. Now 10.3.3 has been announced. It remains to be seen how long BlackBerry is going to support it. App eco system on BlackBerry 10 has always been pathetic. If you're not so concerned about apps then the Passport is the right choice otherwise go for the Priv.
    Both are great devices .

It can do more than that, only that the apps you need are not available.

True. When it was announced that 10.3.3 would come out in March 2016, I believed it and still do. They are pretty good at keeping their word on this kind of thing. The thing is nothing has been said about BB10 after 10.3.3. No gameplan no vision for the future other than a "we're not letting go" mantra. No plans for hardware, integration with other mediums, and definitely a cold shoulder to the consumer like us. Even BlackBerry Blend hasn't been upgraded in awhile and it is still a little buggy, so an update would be appropriate. And I mean a life buggy, it still works great, but again, if BlackBerry cared, they would be improving it and adding new features, like say...making their phones portable OS machines that can be projected onto a screen. Plug in a keyboard and mouse to make it a full fledged desktop (cough...Continuum..). But no...Nothing planned or announced after 10.3.3. So buy a Passport, take a chance...or play the casino with your spare hundreds of dollars.

Yeah what nonsense did I speak?

fact remains 10.3.3 is a maintenance release and BB has officially stated they have no plans on updating the android RT, APIs, and dev tools.
After 10.3.4 BB has stated zero plans on moving BB10 forward
So again if the OP needs anything other than email, phone, text, twitter, and BBM he should give the Priv better chance if he wishes to stay with BB

Nothing in those statements is untrue.

I'm not sure what apps people are referring too but I have all the apps I need on my BlackBerry. I mean do they fire up quickly and seamlessly, no not all the time. So if you can learn to accept that, you can get the apps to work.

That's not to say they all work but the majority do i.e. Google Maps, Instagram , Netflix etc. And the for ones that don't, there are some great 3rd party substations.

I'd rather have an OS that has great communication and multitasking with limited app selection, then to have all the apps in the world with horrible OS fluidity. I've come to realize this after buying a Samsung Galaxy tab S recently. It's a great tablet but having to minimize apps to respond to things or having the app leave the spot your at and restart because you minimized it, is quite irritating.

Waiting for the update in March or April, that is a don't care, but the update itself is. I hope that the buggy Blend would be updated, it has a lot of problems with German Umlaut. Despite the fact that Facebook and WhatsApp have announced the end of support, my BlackBerry Passport is the best tool I ever had. The missing home multimedia things are not a killer criteria, I would love it much more if I could just connect as easy as others could to a Miracast stick and such things are missing, but as a daily tool for work it is the smartphone of choice. I will definitely not buy a PRIV if I need to change the OS, it will be a Sony with Android or the iPhone.

it isn't dead, but it's like BBOS7, it's stoped, no more development and app support dying. BB10 no longer have whatsapp or facebook for example, and those are handy, even for work

Explain your "believe"... It's just a phone, and BB10 is now on the path of BBOS7 unfortunately. I still have a 9900 and 9700 working perfectly, but they "usefullness" tends to come down as app support goes away.
