I just finished watching the launch event, and tripped over a comment that the BB10 does not have push email? Does anyone know for a certainty that this is a fact?

Of course it does. Same email as on the PlayBook.

If it didn't it would be a deal breaker. No ifs or buts.

I think that is a rather disingenuous reply, given that the Playbook doesn't push either ... at least not gmail and other webmail accounts.

If all BB10 devices are going to do is push Exchange accounts ... well count me out :-(

I love my Bold 9900 but it may well be the last BB device I buy

It uses Activesync for exchange. That's not exactly new information.

Gmail doesn't support Activsync anymore, at least for other platforms.

I didn't think about that, but without an app, gmail on this phone is basically useless. Hmmm

Someone else said that it's going to be push only for exchange accounts with all others being checked at 15min intervals. I'd like confirmation on this.

I'm currently using Google as my primary email account, but I have a live account and I have no problem switching over (the addresses are identical except @live instead of @gmail, and I can set my gmail to forward to my live account)

one of the things which annoys the **** out of me is that there'll be no push for gmail on bb10
i've just recently switched over to gmail as well (loving it btw), and yea.... this sucks

automatically checking every 15 minutes for emails instead of getting them instantaneous? fuuuu

Hmm, didn't know that. May have to stick with my Bold for a lot longer than I'd anticipated.

Some platforms have an official GMail client.

I'm not sure it's a deal-breaker for me. But I was kind of surprised when I read that, as I had not seen it mentioned before. I guess I was surprised when I first read the statement, and was curious as to why they would drop that feature, which was definitely a BB benefit....

Google has stated they are moving from Active Sync and going to be using Caldav and Cardav. BB10 supports this so no worries.

Google supports Push-IMAP so you can get emails pushed to you without ActiveSync.

If I send email to my Gmail that is on my BB10 phone, the message arrives instantly... have never seen a delay yet in practice. Also, Calendar and Contacts sync works great!

CalDav and CardDav are for Calendar, Contact sync. You will need to use IMAP for email sync.

Google is dropping support for exchange tomorrow. So any device that hasn't been configured by tomorrow will no longer be able to use the exchange service with a Google account.

Not having push is ridiculous. It is the backbone of BlackBerry. I'll say it again, this all seems rather rushed again.

... and, you are mistaken. My gmail is configured with IMAP on the BB10 phone. Not exchange/activesync/whatever. IMAP with SSL over port 993. "Use push if supported" is set to on. Works just great. Push email.
