    Hi guys,

Recent Z30 owner here. I'm absolutely loving this device. I can't get over how good BB10 is.

I was playing a video from the video app just now and I went to the file manager to do maintenance and the video paused. Hmm I'm disappointed to see this happening.

Is there a way to get the audio to continue playing? If not what good apps can do this? I thought this would just happen like the Playbook. I had Kalemsoft on the Playbook but unlike many other apps I don't seem to have an automatic free BB10 version - I guess I'd have to buy it again.

So can any apps replicate the video app for play on a device feature but also play while in active frame mode?

    Thanks,
    John Paul

Kalemsoft Media Player will continue to play audio but the video will pause, so yes you'll still be able to hear the audio. It's not free but well worth the money if you watch movies on your BlackBerry.

The last time I used it, Kalemsoft also stopped playing, including audio, once minimized in the active frame. The only OS that continues playing in the active frame is QNX in the PlayBook.

Here's a browser trick to do exactly what you want. Navigate to your music or video file and it will continue to play in the background. Here's the url:

    file:///sdcard

    unical and BionicKris like this.

Mine still (KMPlayer) and has always continued to play audio when minimized. I even checked before responding to the OP. Not sure if it matters between a Z30 and Passport.

EDIT: Just checked my Q10 while minimising Kalemsoft, the audio continues to play.

Cheers for replies guys. I've narrowed it down to 3 apps.

    1. Kalemsoft - does it definitely not pause? I put this here since I use it on the Playbook
    2. Playback Plus
    3. Autoplay Media Player

They are cheaper as you go down the list. I think Kalemsoft is excellent on the Playbook. Not sure I need all that functionality on the my Z30. I know the other two definitely do not pause in the background. I'll continue to do more research before making my decision.

    Awesome man, cool trick!

I'm a big fan of Playback Plus and use it everyday. As well as being a great app it doesn't require all the permissions that Kalemsoft insists on.

Hey man thanks good to know. Does it offer the same Play On functionality for playing over wifi via the built in DLNA server? I like this simple feature of the in-built video app.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have any Play On options and so if I'm playing on the big screen then I use the stock video player.

Perhaps your particular video is using some type of strange codec that BlackBerry doesn't support natively. In that case, use Kalemsoft - it handles pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Look down the file names for "external-sd@" and click on that. That's where I found the music and videos on my SD card.

I got this error. It's just an mp4 file and can be played on native video app.

Is there a reason that Blackberry Passport or the Blackberry OS wont play videos while your on the speaker phone??? If someone sends you a link to look at while you're talking to them, it will play for half a second, then stop on YouTube. Other sites will come up with an error saying the resouces are currently in use by another app. This can't be normal. Did they miss this bug during their testing of the OS????

Is there a way to access a usb device that is plugged in using an adapter?

I was trying to access an external hard drive using my passport to see if it allows the Playon feature so that I can stream full screen video using miracast.

Try mx player. You can install either free or paid version via Google play store or download apk via Google search. It's a complete video player. Any kind of video it can play. I am glad with it in my z30. Of course background play is perfectly working wit it.

Not really looking for background playback, I'm looking for a way to get the "play on" feature for videos on an external hard drive or remote file access folder
