Question to people far smarter than me:

Would it be possible for someone to write an app that takes an apk file, and converts and installs it in the BlackBerry phone itself?

And, since tokens are supposed to be associated with your bbid, maybe we would not have to go through so many steps.

So, the app, would just have to find the apk, maybe in the phone, SD card, or cloud drive, and convert and install it?

I wouldn't mind paying up to $10 if a dev could come up with such an app =)

I'm not a dev but from what I've read about the way bb10 works. It isn't possible not unless BlackBerry does it themselves.

There is a service out that allows you to set up a vpn connection and sideload apps similar to localbar for the playbook I don't see it as too much of a stretch for them to add a converter to their site.

I'm still wondering why that hasnt happened yet. Not just convert but install bars directly. I think it has more to do with BB trying to be "secure". Whatever it is, it's holding back the overall user experience.

That doesn't do the conversion on the BlackBerry, it's done on a server and side loaded to the device using a VPN.

I haven't been able to find any references, but there were rumors that BlackBerry was going to include this capability in a future release. I personally think that is a completely bad idea, but as long as I can turn it off I've no problem with other people have the ability to run what ever cruft they want to on their machines.
