I have a couple albums on my phone with no artwork. When I did the transfer from my iTunes it failed to bring over the artwork. Is their anyway I can update the album artwork on my device using an image of the artwork I have saved in my pictures?

Without breaking out a tag editor, try saving the album art as folder.jpg in the album folder.

If your music is in folders, you can put any square picture in the folder and call it Folder.jpg
You only need a small pic, I use 400X400 pixels, and voila that becomes your album art.
I love customising the artwork as opposed to using the embedded ones,

I hope that's what you meant.

There are even apps to assist although as other poster said it can be more fun to use custom art and do it manually.

Yes putting a picture you find on the Internet as folder.jpg is good. I also use Media Monkey and it's autotag from the Internet function.
