i dont understand why people pull the battery. If you really must reboot just hold the button down till it reboots.. its not that hard.
Thats the equivalent of a battery pull and when the phone refuses to wake up, hold to reboot doesnt work.

If by "battery pull" you mean "cold restart" (which is really what it is, and you don't need to physically pull the battery to do that), then the answer for me is: very rarely. On average, probably once a month or so.

Every once in a blue moon something happens which I might try a reboot to see if it helps. A couple of examples include some sort of Android app that got into a zombified state and started draining my battery, or on some builds of 10.1 I had to occasionally restart if I went out of WiFi range and then returned and it didn't re-connect to the WiFi. (Though this only required a warm restart, not a cold restart. And the current OS versions don't seem to generally suffer from this problem much any more.)

Never once i did a battery pull ... reboot works just fine. Even that is very rare ... maybe three times since Feb and one was just to see what happen ...

I have had a Q10 for a little more than 4 months, and have not needed to do a battery pull so far.

    Never out of necessity.

I've taken my battery out to clean out some dust and gunk around the back and under the plate but never because of an OS issue.

Also once just to fondle the battery.

Have never pulled the battery due to a malfunction. I have used the reset/reboot (hold down volume keys) when ever I notice a performance issue. I rarely have to reset my Z10, but when I do it always seems to correct the problem. In the early days I did have to deal with the reboots but thankfully they are in the past. Running leaks was scary at first but with caution and attention to detail, side loading and leak installs have been fun and very rewarding. leaks and side loading have only enhanced my experience to include performance.

You know that pulling the battery has been proven to possibly crater the OS right? there are plenty of threads on here as well as a video from the Berry Leaks team pretty much saying don't do it, it is not necessary on this phone just use the vokume/power buttons....

That's why the Q5 and Z30 have permanent batteries, you do not need to. If you do you risk bricking the phone.

Notice the trend here? People who pull their batteries tend to have to pull their batteries more often. I wonder why. Reload your OS and never pull that battery again. Changing batteries? Shut down and replace. Frozen screen/app? Plenty of ways to restart and they have all been listed here. Battery pull is not necessary anymore and potentially destructive to the software.

I have had my Q10 for about 3 months. Not one battery pull. :-)

I still like the ability to swap out an extra battery or if later the original battery starts getting to old to charge fully.

Exactly, couldn't have said it better myself, people have to realize this new OS has nothing in common with the old OS whatsoever they is nothing from OS7 in OS10 not a single line of code left over.

And absolutely you should always shut down the phone before taking the battery out

I did maybe 3 battery pulls on my Q10 when I first got the phone in may. Out of habit more than anything else. Never had to so it since then. Now with a Z30 I don't have that choice but there isn't a need to anymore

Not on my z10. I've done a few on my Q10. The screen sometimes locks up when I try to enter my pass it flickers and is unresponsive. The lock button sometimes helps but on a few occasions it didn't....
