the best way to use Waze on the former is definitely opting for the version available on the Amazon App Store (3.8.1.1). While it's an older version, it runs quite well, integrates fine with my Facebook account and generally works smoother on BlackBerry 10 devices than the latest version from GPS.

Disagree entirely. The latest versions of Waze work very well, and certainly much better than the museum piece in Amazon.

Funny how variable our experiences are. I gave up on the GPS version and installed 3.8.1.1 from the Amazon app store and it worked perfectly for 4 days. Then it stopped working, right after I downloaded the T-Mobile WFC app that was lost when I loaded BB10.3.3. Coincidence, I don't know. So I uninstalled it and downloaded the latest version from GPS and once again had a terrible experience; on two occasions it literally took 7-8 tries before it would run for the whole drive home. So last night I uninstalled and went back to the Amazon version. First trip it was flawless, 2nd trip it got cranky and took a couple starts to work. Looking forward to see how it does tomorrow.

I agree with Conite that the interface on 3.8.1.1 is clunky compared to the GPS version. But at least it seems more reliable.

I actually agree with this one, the new version is sluggish on my Passport, whereas the one from Amazon runs far better.

I'm thinking this could be a 10.3.2 vs. 10.3.3 issue. The latest version of Waze from GPS does run, but I find it sluggish to start up and later on too.

My Passport (carrier unlocked) and my gf's Q10 (factory unlocked) are still stuck on 10.3.2. I'm due to update my Passport with Sachesi, but haven't had the time to, and specially since I now use my PRIV as main driver, haven't had the need to test out the aforementioned.

Hey, thanks for that. I've just come from a decade of using the Treo 755p to a Q10, so I might not be the most reliable reporter.
Google Maps did a good written turn-by-turn job till the bitter end on Treo and I'm stoked about voice directions on the Q10.
Genius Maps is interesting, giving some pretty intricate information including side streets the other apps don't seem to be aware of but I can't even copy/paste from Contacts into the search function. I had tried Waze, from where I don't remember, but couldn't get the handle, for whatever reason, so I removed it.
Trying out your linked version, I seem to be getting a better result and, so far, can get addresses by putting a Contact name in the search field. Can't ask for more than that!
Also, IIRC, the previous Waze icon was yellow and this one's blue.

Wow, thanks a LOT!
I was experiencing problems with "Amazon version" of Waze (last few days just working offline, displaying "searching for network" all the time which makes online navigation pointless...). I guess Amazon version is almost dead and would have troubles connecting to Waze servers.
So I searched for a solution and found this page - and - link to working APK! I was trying for a long time to install new version from GPS, with no luck. But this version is working on both Passport and Z30 - and both are running latest OS 10.3.3.
I had to uninstall previous version before installing APK, and run it from Total Commander. And once you overcome struggling with login and account verification, it works!
I've got a hope my Passport would survive some more months :-)
