Are you talking about BBM Money? I believe they have been able to partner with only one or two banks so far.

Yes, it's BBM Money that I was referring to. Actually a new post on Crackberry's home page has Chen say a bit about this same subject. Coincidence. Anyway, he seems to suggest that they are waiting for the new payment system to become popular first. At least that's my interpretation.

Permata Bank is one. I'm not aware of any others. They also have a mobile minutes trading system, but the only way to get actual cash in and out is through a Permata account as far as I know.

Yeah. It seems the bank was described as being able to process transactions even for customers of other banks within that country.

But the customer has to create a specific account managed by Permata and then fund that account.
Has BlackBerry published any data on actual transaction volume through BBM Money?

None that i know of at this point. I think the BBM Money/Permata example was customized for the particular country and market/consumer needs so I don't necessarily expect an exact replica to be what is done everywhere else. But it would be nice to have options like BlackBerry in this new payment system.

I don't know how you would even compare them. BBM Money is a p2p way to transfer money to/from a dedicated account or a way to transfer mobile minutes.
Apple Pay is a system for making transactions from many different debit and credit cards across multiple banks to any merchant account, also from thousands of banks, over multiple payment networks.
Apples and oranges.

Here's my take on this.
Mobile pay technology revolves around NFC technology. BlackBerry had it on their devices before Apple did.
Next, not having as much mobile devices deployed like Apple and Android devices put BlackBerry in a position where they could not influence much the adoption of mobile payment system, especially in the United States where there's so much unreasonable bias against the BlackBerry brand. On this note, because Apple got a head start here in the United States does not make them the best at it.
Now that mobile payment might become adopted in the near future by more and more people, it makes for a better opportunity for BlackBerry to deploy their version of the technology in the U.S. And that's good, because more than selfies, i would certainly want a reliable security behind my use of such technology.

I agree as well. To add to the point BlackBerry has been doing mobile payments in Canada for at least two years. They partnered with the carriers for a secure sim card and the banks - I know two of the big 4 banks for sure. They use the infrastructure millions trusted over the years and I think that will be their competitive advantage. Only issue is Apple has more money to make the deals and they usually don't allow others to use their hardware. So without knowledge of how it all works I am not certain on how this and other inter-device payment methods will work. For the consumer it should be seamless. I hope BlackBerry advertises it's ability very well as I trust it more than others. The more they are involved, the more revenue generated to support the entire global infrastructure that they manage through their NOC.

From my reading of independent analysis of Apple Pay it appears that while Apple did a lot of work to finally roll out NFC smart phone payment to a large group, most of the heavy lifting had already been done and could be used by other solutions. Even CurrenC if they weren't so bent on building a tracking solution.
In an interview with BNN Chen said that BlackBerry was involved in the clearance infrastructure and would be getting a cut of the fees as "it goes viral".

BlackBerry does have BBM money and NFC payments with blackberry are in every country I guess just check your mobile provider's website for more information
