You can only use Link, DBBT, or Sachesi to 'open' a bbq backup file, and then you'll only be able to view the contents if you restore to a BB10 device.

Ensure that the Q10 is signed in with the exact same BBID that was used on the device that the backups are from, then you can restore the backup to Q10 with either of the three desktop programs.

Unless I'm mistaken, the OS on the phone you are restoring to has to be the same, or at least newer than the OS used during the original backup.

I don't know if being too new would be a problem or not. But I don't think so.

What's the OS on the phone? Might need to update the phone just to be sure.

So after all the hoopla yesterday of updating Blackberry World I pulled out my Classic to get it and also managed to OS update to 10.3.3.3204.

I wanted to get a final backup of it as my most recent backup on PC is dated 2016 and I used it for a couple months in 2017 when my Priv went to hell as I was waiting out the brief KEYone delay. When I use BlackBerry Link it runs for a while but eventually gives an error and says backup not completed. I've tried 3 different Micro USB cords in different ports on both my old PC and new laptop. All the same result. Any help out there?

LINK has always been hit and miss for me.... Why I used Ultimate Backup and the Cloud so much.

Generally LINK liked backing up and restoring to the same version or maybe restoring to a "slightly" newer version. It didn't like BIG jumps, nor going backwards.

So if you have a BBB backup file, you really need to utilize a device that is running the same or only slightly newer OS. Problem is you can't downgrade anything very far.

Also doing a limited restore could sometimes help... if your restores start and fail.
