I'm wondering if any of you smart people on this site know if it is possible for an independent developer (i.e. Nemory) to create an app like the Android Runtime? I'm hoping it is possible for someone to create an independent ART running Oreo.... definitely a pie in the sky idea but I figured I'd check.

Someone probably could but building the system is just a portion of the problem, getting it to run and integrate will never happen. The Android Runtime is more than an app really. It's a deep integration within the OS, and without the same level of access, it'll never play nice even if someone built it.

No. Even if such a thing could somehow be developed despite the fact that the 5.0 and later runtimes aren't open-sourced, only BB can load OS-related software as it requires BB's signing keys, and BB has zero interest in doing any more work on BB10.

Gotcha. Thanks for the response. I remembered having to install an ART patch from BB World and the thought came to mind that maybe it could be built. Oh well...
