We are working to upgrade the Android Runtime from Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. The goal is to support all current features and APIs available on the Android runtime today and evaluate new features and APIs for inclusion, such as fragments, embedded fragments and the animation framework.

This right here is what you call epic. Everyone was expecting 4.1 and bam BB brings out 4.2.2

I am personally so freaking excited for this, means many more amazing android applications can be brought over.

I was going to post this as well, but my phone is dead from non stop going off the hook (hate days like this, wish I had the extra battery)

    Friggin awesome!

Even though 4.3 or 5.0 will be announced tomorrow, only 1% or so of Android phones are even running 4.2.2 today!

Looks like 10.2 will have this update according to the site.

I am pretty new back to BB so I am going to sound a bit uninformed...

Does this mean that any app that is on the app store could be taken and converted to a bar and we can install it? Right now my assumption is a lot of the newer updated apps are not able to be converted because right now BB10 runs on an old android run-time... Is that the jist of it all?

According to AndroidCentral, Jelly Bean 4.2 is used by 1.6% of Android phones. The number "jumps" to 16.5% if you include Jelly Bean 4.1 far from the "at least 25%" you claim.

    Just for your information.

So what version is in 10.1? One of my most used apps is behaving oddly since the update earlier today... camera that appears within the app is now the BB native camera, but was what I assume to be the Android camera prior to the new OS. And it sticks in portrait mode for some reason.

I assume the developer will fix the problem, but it makes me suspect the Android runtime or emulator is upgraded from what was in 10.0. I haven't found any details yet though...

If the Android app will run in on Android OS 2.3.3, you can most likely run it in the emulator using the method you described. If the app requires a newer Android OS, you won't be able to get it to work (or so I am told).

Yep. The 4.2 user interface is a mess. Wife wanted to punch me after I updated her nexus. I think the manufacturers are hoping for Google to fix the issues in 4.3 before they release anything newer.
