So? Not everything haves to be free if it does the trick. If you dont want droid or ios and stick with bb10 this should solve your problem.

If that's a justifiable price, go right ahead.

I hope the BBM Enterprise for regular folks process isn't the tooth pulling it was before.

Anyone know maybe why the official Telegram app (or Signal) are not on the Amazon App Store? It would be so much easier than dealing with Snap.

You're going to need Google services regardless of where you find these chat apps.

Upstream: the original, not a fork. https://github.com/WhisperSystems/Signal-Android

LibreSignal is an abandoned fork to remove Google Play Services, which is irrelevant now that upstream offers the option.
True. But the Signal app on BB10 makes the phone sluggish and eats away he battery. There is no polling setting and the connection stays alive in the background all the time in order to listen for new messages. VoIP doesnt work as well. So it is still a work in progress.

Signal is open source, no? Would it be possible for someone to write a third-party Signal app for BB10 if there's an API available?

Possible yes, probable no. There's some bug reports about particular incompatibilities between the Signal Android app and the Android runtime (easier than making native app from whole cloth), although whenever it's brought up Signal devs say unsupported platforms aren't their problem.

I am using LibreSignal on my Passport. Seems to work fine. The APK was intended for Sailfish OS, but as I said seems to work ok for me. I had one instance where it may have quickly drained the battery over night, but can't be certain. It does not use Google Services.

Latest Signal apk works, with notifications, on BB10 without Cobalt's Google Play Services. I didn't test voice, but I've heard it doesn't work due to a limitation in BB10's android runtime which won't be fixed (there's a topic in CB10 about this and a github post).

I've downloaded the app through Yalp Store (from F-Droid). Or you can download it with Racoon on a desktop and transfer it to your phone.

Just go ahead and try it. It won't cost you more than several megabytes and, conditionally, few seconds to uninstall the app.

Telegram works fine on BB10. Yes there are question marks over the encryption but as of this day no decrypted telegram messages have ever been used in a court case. Good enough for me.
