Wasn't the IPhone out 2 yrs before it caught fire and took off? So maybe we have to wait another 18 months and then see how BB is doing.

But that's kind of the point. BlackBerry can't afford to wait another 18 months for it to take off. BlackBerry 10 keeps getting better with each and every build that gets released but nobody can wait for it to be great. It had to be 'great' out of the gate in order to make a dent and for some, it didn't meet expectations at all.

If there marketing department didn't start blowing out advertising and commercials in the past 3-4 weeks with all the negative press, I can't imagine that they have any plans to start. Crap, there hasn't been anything that I see that would make a Android or Apple user to switch platforms now. Yeah there selling phones though their website for? Discounted? Prices. Did the same with PlayBook and dropped it like a ton of bricks and that playbook had a lot of promise to it. The darn thing didn't need blackberry 10, it needed apps

BB10 has no differentiating features from iOS and Android. It's BBRY attempting to match what's been on the market for years. Just like the Playbook was their version of the iPad, BB10 is their version of a touch screen OS. It may be great, but it isn't better than the competition.
How can you say that? The hub, gesture based OS, the keyboard, cascades, etc...

What would you consider differentiating features that an OS can have? I don't see how anyone can say that BB10 isn't different enough. You may not think those differences are better, but it is certainly different in many positive ways.

Don't think they got 18 months. They need to get marketing going tomorrow, (actually months ago) to even have a chance. Also stop with the "Coming Soon " BS. There really wasn't anything close to the IPhone when it was released, as far as having the capabilities for entertainment, also business, but mostly entertainment.

I have been a die hard BlackBerry fan since my 8700.
I hate to say it but they have had all the time in the world. They had it all and all they had to do was not screw it up. Well, they stuck their heads in the sand and internally destroyed the pioneer of smartphones.
I live my Z10 but there is much about it that I hate at the same time, the OS, not the hardware.
BlackBerrys Constant promise and no delivery is worn through.
Delay upon delays, glitches, bugs, inferior ecosystem, no one wants to hear their crap anymore, myself included. Remember the big deal with Skype on their launch? Yeah that was well done.

Not switching..yet. Because I don't have an alternative I like but this is one long time dedicated BlackBerry user that is tired of getting screwed by the company I've been so loyal to for so long.

So as for BlackBerry just needing time, I don't agree. They have had their time and screwed it up. The company should be taken private and rebuilt. It will never compete against the big 2. It needs to red fine its core and be happy with that.

Oh man, just not sure if there is enough time? They had a great chance to change the public perception back in Jan, but have really made things worse now. I believe in BB10. In a perfect world, people would realize it's potential. I'm hoping for a miracle with this company. I will stick behind them no matter how many bone head moves they make. I can't really see many others following my footsteps. Who knows what the future holds.

Yawn.. How does that make the phone BETTER. Different? Yes, you swipe a lot more. And there is always Peek and Flow - remember them?

BlackBerry has done nothing to differentiate their phones. If they were #1 (or even #2) in the market they wouldn't be playing catch up - and since they are #4, they have to show how their phones are better.

And they are out of time.

It's not enough. BB10 doesn't have enough advantages to overcome its massive disadvantage: apps. That might not be fair, but BBRY could have built an App Store when they were on top. Instead, they partnered with the carriers. After spending years being all but hostile to third party developers.

All we've given them is "time".

-give us more time. The playbook will get updated to 10.
-give us more time. The new zed 10 will be out soon. Just give us a bit more time to perfect it.
-give us more time. BBM encountered some unforeseen obstacles (even though we made up some nonsense about the delay to really get to the gullible ones out there) and will be here soon. Coming soon.

    Tick tock. Tick tock.

Pretending like they can afford the time is what screwed them to begin with.

They need time and better pricing. Public image is damaged and that is hard to fix.
They should not price it cheap but make deals, offers, whatever to increase their user base.
If somebody is new to blackberry, why they will buy bb priced close to an iPhone or Android phone, when the image is bad, rumors of closing, and not supported by many app developers. There is this sense of insecurity when they want to buy a BlackBerry, will they take the risk? Why ? BlackBerry should give them the answer to why.
Personally i love it, i believe in this company and its products, as it fits my needs. But looking at their market share and public image, it seems many are not.

Did you even read my post??? I never said those features make it better (for me they do make it better, but clearly not for most people), but the argument was about differentiating. Those features make BB10 different than the other platforms. One thing you can't say about BB10 is that it isn't different. You may not like the differences, but they are there regardless.

Unfortunately I believe you described WebOS for most of that and then Swiftkey (Android) for the other.

    Great. It's "different". You're right.

Now, in the real world, when people say "differentiated" they mean "different and better". May not be the official definition, but that's how people use the word. Arguing that it is in fact different is pointless. Every phone platform is "different".

Personally I think it is much better if you take third party apps out of the equation. Its sad that apps are really the only thing holding BB10 back. It sucks that apps are the major deciding factor for most people and that apps have that much control.

Unfortunately, I don't think time is anything more BB needs. It needs quicker results using the least amount of time. I don't see it happening now though. Especially now actually.
