As we all know, it can be challenging to manage your contacts from various sources. BB10 tries to make it easier with the "automatic link" feature. But it seems lots of folks get mixed up and end up with crazy duplicates etc.

Now 1925 has a new feature that allows us to specify which of three places a new contact will be saved...

    - Your sim card,

    - Your phone's local contacts (local means on the phone's internal memory), or

    - Your Outlook contacts on your computer (sync'd via BlackBerry Link).

    Attachment 235015

You can choose to have the new contact saved to any one or two of these locations or to all 3.

[EDIT TO CLARIFY] The option to save to BBLink wasn't there in 1055 AFAIK. The option to save to BBLink is new to me in 1925. Maybe it was added in 1295... don't know cuz I went straight from 1055 to 1925.

I'm trying to consolidate all my contacts onto my Outlook as a means of keeping my contact info off the Web. This new feature is a godsend for that purpose.

In earlier posts on 1055, I had mentioned it would be cool if they could add the Link account. Seems someone is listening!

My third option is to my work exchange account that syncs over EAS.

I like that you can choose.

Now if only they would add an option to ignore the sim card so that I'll never have to see it listed.

You have to be creating a new contact. Press the button at top that says save to local etc

Yes. It defaults to all locations available. You have to tap that button to then select which ones, or one, to save to with all locations initially checked.

Contacts, pull-down Settings, toggle "Show Account in Contact List"?

Would be nice if the new contact storage option was sticky rather than having to choose every time.

Having to deselect most of the options each time is wearying.

If you added a new contact in pre-10.2.1 it would sync with ALL sync able contact databases (split between personal and work if on BES)... always.
Example 1: In personal if you had gmail(mail and contacts), outlook (mail and contacts) , bblink, then a new contact would sync with all above + local.
Example 2: In personal if you had gmail(just mail), outlook (mail and contacts) , bblink, then a new contact would sync with all above except gmail + local.
The option now is definitely better.

Yes, it looks like it gives you the option for any updatable accounts you have. I only have those 3.

And for me, the Link account for my laptop only appeared with 1925.(FYI: I upgraded directly from 1055.)

Actually that's here now... sort of..

Open a contact.. tap the overflow menu.. select 'copy to'

    1925: cool new contacts feature-img_20140101_134223.png

Then you can select what account to move it to..

    1925: cool new contacts feature-1388602332048.jpg

I say sort of, because it's not a move, it's a copy.. so you then have to go delete it from the account it was originally tied to, but it gets the job done.

This is new as of 1055+ also.

I know that, and already did that.

I'm talking about leaving out the SIM in all possible options so something doesn't get sent to the SIM by accident.

I don't use it and never will. Isn't the SIM still limited to storing only a name and one phone number anyway?

I just don't know what the SIM even offers that still makes it a viable option these days. It was fine for the dumb phones of 8-10 years ago...

Agreed that I don't personally ever store anything on the sim card.. option to completely disable it would be nice.. but in the meantime if you just swipe down to settings in the contacts app every now and then.. click manage sim card contacts.. there's a delete all button.
