Curious, most unlocked phones are getting it, some aren't. Is it the model? Or something else?
I have sta100-3, z30. If you have an unlocked z30 and did get it, what model is yours?

Unlocked from BlackBerry Shop are first in line.
Then other most likely the other unlocked follow (e.g. those purchased from Amazon).
    Carriers decide on their own.

So far my unlocked from Amazon with a Vodafone Germany SIM didn't receive the update.

What model is yours? Is that how it decides? Like what is different between a shop BlackBerry vs an amazon?

I have a Z10 STL 100-3 from AT&T U.S. If I get it unlocked, would I be able to receive updates direct like unlocked BlackBerry from BlackBerry and Amazon?

    No must be factory unlocked.

Meaning it came directly from BlackBerry or Amazon.

Buying a factory unlocked device and unlocking a locked device are two completely separate things.

It's not the model but it's the fact that you have the Verizon edition of the Z30 and it's not factory unlocked.

    Verizon devices are weird.

But you will get the updates when Verizon chooses to push them.
Hopefully you'll receive it in a few years at the rate Verizon is pushing BlackBerry updates.

I'm trying this on a Passport bought from Amazon, unlocked - no updates. My Z10's and Q10's purchased through other vendors like Carphone Warehouse are also unlocked and no updates. It's the SIM you have inside at the time for the carrier to push the updates, not the phone unlock status.

It seems like the major amount of people getting the update are within North America (or at least continent of america) . Only few lucky ones got it outside.
Maybe BBRY makes an regional rollout after the servers went down last time.

I've been trying to figure this out. In the family we have a black Passport from September -nothing, red Passport from November - received notification, 2 Z30s from the fall STA100-5 - both received notifications, Z10 from early 2014 - received notification, Z10 from fall 2014 - nothing.

The older Z10 has been off for months; just turned it on to see and there it was. All bought from shopblackberry. Not sure how they are deciding to push the update, what order, etc.

Thanks for posting. Interesting read. I'm still of course curious as to how BlackBerry decides to roll out updates directly. For example, two Passports bought from shopblackberry two months apart; one has a notification and one doesn't. Been waiting on the other for a week or so now.

Oh man, so even though it says unlocked, it's really not then?

A phone can be unlocked to use on other carriers, but the phones getting this update so far are factory unlocked.

If you did not buy factory unlocked through either shopblackberry or Amazon (US) then you won't receive the update officially until the carrier gets it, tests it, approves it, pushes it out.

Shopblackberry and Amazon both sell the same model number for factory unlocked devices. For example, both sell the unlocked Passport SQW100-1.

There may be other third party sellers that sell devices on Amazon that are carrier unlocked, not factory unlocked.
