Whoa! Whoa! Just installed 1055 yesterday and just found out I'm missing a picture editing pane. What happened to the filters? Now it got substituted by silly frames? Wtf? Now how am I supposed to get nice images like these?

Edit: For clarification all of these images where done with the included picture editor in BlackBerry OS 10.1, absolutely no 3rd party app was used.

Is not the same filters as the old "Styles" section. That one had a feature called beautify. In which would grab people's faces and correct any imperfections, correct skin color and brighten teeth.

So where is that now?

Okay Here's what I'm talking about.

Original picture.



Old BlackBerry 10.1 Camera.

Under Styles, just used one filter, "Sixties" this is the end result.



In 10.2...1055 however this is the closest I can get by using one filter and one frame.

And 10.2...1055


...... Notice the last pane icon difference?

I agree, I thought the idea of filters/borders in the OS would be good news for the IG-generation at least. I hope they do expand on them, or at least bring back all the old options as well (nothing wrong with options).
It fits in well with the "you do not need apps for basic funtions"-vibe that BB10 has.

But in other discussions I have noticed many fanatical users of filters just dismiss the native filters as "oh they are just so standard, I need the special 'x' filters!"
Maybe BlackBerry realised it was useless to put more time and effort into it for little benefit? I still hope they will improve it, or maybe even open it up to developers to add their own filters to it.

The OP means that the 'Frames' section from the latest leaks is new/different. If you look at his picture it used to be a different section (different tab icon), one with Frame+Filter as a single option.
Because they removed that tab you can no longer find those specific options. And if you ask me the Frames tab is very limited, so they are not very useful as is.

This, thanks for clarification.

The options in 10.1 were far more useful and cooler. Why remove them?, beats me.

You are probably the only one who noticed. You have an eye for details.
Considering that you like filters, extending their ranges with an app will be best for you.

As of why they changed it. No one but them will know.

And this one, only 1 filter used in these two pictures, nothing else.






Notice I did not use any other app than the included picture editor.

Everyone in the US has these options right now. They'll notice when 10.2 finally rolls over here.

Look at where it says frames in your picture. Look at how it looks in 10.1. It's a complete different thing called Styles with filters that are not anymore there for you to use. They dumb down somewhat the usability of the picture editor.

I liked the fact that I didn't need any other app, that I could quickly edit a picture in a flash with just one filter which included light adjustment, white balance, and a frame in one swipe. Now the whole process feels very basic and slow...

Just look at the pictures I posted, all of them have just one of the options in the whole picture editing app. Try doing that now, you won't be able to get results like that and if you can it will take you more than 5 seconds.

I'm not trying to sound like an ***, I like some of the new features I'm seeing, which are very minor, but why dispose of the other ones which made picture editing a flash... I mean why go backwards?
