if you have a password set on your device, if you press and and hold the top lock button for a moment, you will then be presented with a screen with 3 options, to the left - cancel, to the right - restart, and in the middle - lock. Pressing that lock button will allow you to instantly lock your phone without waiting for the timeout.

Good question. I just found this thread after thinking it would be a good idea to lock the phone if I ever get pulled over. I have nothing to hide, it is just out of principle. Holding down the power button is good enough I suppose.

Long press the upper (switch button) and a screen shows up. You can let go the button and press the lock. It takes really betw. 1 and 2 sec... but not with one key press. You know, some want to just turn off the screen, too, so that's the compromise: short press turns the screen, longpress to lock.

Not if he holds the lock button at the top..........

OR if BlackBerry in their infinite wisdom would have kept the KB shortcut to lock the device (* for 2 seconds)

Not possible at the moment, I believe. The fastest way to lock the device is to hold the top button and tap on the lock button.
Unless you just wanna turn of the display and play pretend that it's locked.

Just hold the lock button until the black screen comes up and tap on lock. It's the same effect, just two seconds longer.

Why don't you just put your phone in your pocket if you're that worried about your brother looking at it.

Long press that upper button, when pressed 1 whole second you see this:

Then only tap on that lock, and done!

I hate how you can't instantly pass lock the phone with the click of one button either.

Yes I know you can hold the power button then hit lock which is an annoyance and extremely awkward movement with one hand.

Besides sometimes you just need it locked there and then and don't have time to fiddle and touch the screen to lock it.

Pretty ridiculous we don't have an auto lock upon pressing the power button.

Instead of complaining (to all who did) why not sending messages to BlackBerry directly using the BlackBerry community app so they can take notice that a mere amount of people wants something mere to be changed...
