Thought I would share the the solution I got to this problem. When plugging my BlackBerry Classic into Windows 8.1, my computer absolutely would not recognized the device. Here is the solution I got from BlackBerry.

    --------------

    Windows 8.1 64bit

(Alternatively a third party registry cleaner can be used in lieu of manually completing steps 4 and 5)

    1. Uninstall BlackBerry Link/BlackBerry Desktop Software 10

    2. Check the following directories for any files and folders named "BlackBerry","Research In Motion", "RIM" and "XCPCSync.OEM", if they are present delete them. Here are the other directories you can take note of:

    2(a). C:\Windows\Users\..%USER%..\AppData\Local

    2(b). C:\Windows\Users\..%USER%..\AppData\LocalLow

    2(c). C:\Windows\Users\..%USER%..\AppData\Roaming

    2(d). C:\Windows\Program Files (x86)\

    2(e). C:\Windows\ProgramData\

    2(f). C:\Windows\Program Files (x86)\Common Files

    3. Check the following paths for drivers, if they are present then delete them.

    3(a). C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

    -rimusbnt.inf_amd64_neutral_532a9f65bccbfee8

    -rimvndis.inf_amd64_neutral_4b3e7f5e20216f4b

    -blackberryncm.inf_amd64_neutral_23f3337b6f80b2db

    -rimserial.inf_amd64_neutral_8089aa44baeaf242

    3(b). C:\Windows\System32\drivers

    -rimvndis6_AMD64.sys

    -RimUsb_AMD64.sys

    -RimSerial_AMD64.sys

    -blackberryncm6_AMD64.sys

    4. Check the Registry (regedit.exe) for the following registry keys, if they are present then delete them.

    4(a). HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion

    4(b)HKCU\Software\BlackBerry

    4(c)HKCU\Software\Reseach In Motion

4(d)HKCR\XCPC* (delete anything that starts with this key)

    5. Run the following command in the Run program and hit enter, this will leverage the 32 bit version of registry editor.

    5(a) C:\Windows\syswow64\regedit -m

5(b)Locate this registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sha redDLLs

5(c)Locate and delete these registry key values if they are present:

    -C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers\RimUsb.sys

    -C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers\RimUsb_AMD.sys

    -C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\XCPCSync.OEM\SyncSKD.209.604\XCPCSync.dll

    6. Turn off any firewalls and anti-virus programs if they are enabled on the PC

    7. Restart the server, before the windows logo appears press F8

    8. You should be prompted to a DOS like screen with the options to enter "Safe Mode"

    9. Scroll to the bottom and select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

    10. The PC will boot as normal. Login with admin credentials

    11. Download the latest version of BlackBerry Link by downloading the BlackBerry Blend bundle

    12. Install the BlackBerry Blend bundle (Blend install optional)

    13. Plug in the device and wait for the drivers to install

    14. BlackBerry Link should now detect the device
