They will end support at the end of 2016. So for another 9 months, updates will still be coming.

Another way to look at the discontinuation is that right now it's in maintenance mode and until end of the year the app is feature-complete and only critical fixes will be added. Then after that it'll work until the next major protocol redesign, and no support will be provided. Kinda doubt they will start blocking people off.

It seems that lots of people on CB believe that when a company says it will discontinue support at the end of 2016 they mean that they have stopped support now. Not all companies work that way. WhatsApp has people they hired to program for BlackBerry. There is no reason to expect that BlackBerry won't get all the updates until the end of 2016.

This is what support means to well managed companies. The app is still supported for the remainder of this year, so there is a real team (and by all accounts a good one) who go to work every sprint working on their BB10 app.

As to purpose? If they cut it then cut it, so we can make the necessary rearrangement. We will add content, conversations, media, and so,.. we need an alternative for it.
Either modify bb10 to work fully with the android version including the hub full integration, or co-develop a shell app that will do so. This is how responsible companies behave if they want loyal customers to continue to be so. Otherwise,

I'm referring to you blackberry and Whatsapp altogether. You made a decision? Deal with it. I will most certainly not go to the priv. This is the reason why I stick to blackberry since 2005. Unique operating system and fabulous devices. This will be the only reason to stay on board. I cannot go ios or Android nor windows. I feel like an addict

    Rehab, anyone?

Blackberry! Do whatever it takes to keep your core loyal customers. We deserve to be treated accordingly.

Had tor read carefully before upgrading. I wondered for a while it was another "Facebook-like" upgrade for BB10. Then I remembered it was March not December.

Can we extract the previous version? So that we can later install it after 2016?

Yes, this is what it means to be professional. You announce termination of support well in advance, but until that time arrives you continue with business as usual, which includes updates, fixes, and so on.

To add a note of sheer conjecture, I wonder if there is a plan to merge WhatsApp and FB Messenger into a single app by the end of the year. Since that would involve a major overhaul to the entire backend server structure, it would also be a good time to cut loose the dwindling platforms.

The pace of development has definitely slowed, but there is still work to be done to fix bugs and make sure the innards of the app are compliant with our latest protocols. While you likely won't see many new user-facing features from here on out, that doesn't necessarily mean there won't still be periodic releases and/or betas.

Thanks derek. Just give us video calling and we will remain happy for another year or so until all who care move on to Priv Androids or iPhones.

Has anyone noticed that Whatsapp notifications aren't being pushed to the Hub, and that you're only seeing new messages if you actually check by clicking on a conversation? It's rare, but happens every so often. Maybe once a day. I'll click a conversation to find a reply that never registered in the Hub or in the preview window or in the red notification led.

What's the deal? This is new, within the past month or two.
Ps I love that there is a WA developer presence here on the forum, what a great company.

I have failed to understand what will happen in 2017. Will the BlackBerry App stop working?

Will we need to use the android app and will it also be connected to the Hub?

If not I will have to finally change to ios.

Hope somebody can explain to me what will happen.

I do not like Android and have had a few of expensive terminals, so I not buying any BlackBerry with Android.
