Folks, Perhaps I am being paranoid, and stupid. But I really do not understand why an App for voice recording would need the following permissions:
Run in the background; Notification control, Access identifiers such as your device phone number and BB ID; Allow this app to access your pictures, music, documents and other files stored on your device, at a remote storage provider, on a media card or in the cloud etc.

Am I missing something, is it safe to allow.

I think to contact the dev is the best to do so you know.

Maybe he wants to grab your name for just fancy use, or grab your BlackBerry ID Email to use for newsletters

Deny the permissions you don't like and see if it works, if it doesn't then contact the dev to ask him.

I denied the BB ID thing and it did not work. Thing is I paid for the App!!

All apps especially paid apps should have to pre-specify which permissions will be requested and why.

All which permissions can be denied and still have the app operational.

Shared Files permissions basically allows the app to access the files on your device like saving the recording, reading the recorded files. This is the standard permission. If you deny Shared Files then you can't save any recordings.

Phone Control and Access are so that the recording app can automatically record phone calls. This is needed so the app can tell when there is a new phone call. If you do not plan to record phone calls then you can deny both phone and phone access permissions.

The only really permissions that you need for voice recorder are: Shared Files, Microphone. All others are optional. You might need BBM Connection since sometimes the OS won't allow the app to run.

Run in background is because you can use it to record conversations I think
