Also, Facetime Audio will be the nail in the coffin for skype I think?

Not me. I think mostly kids do.

Good question. I don't know who uses it, but I remember all the fuss people made because it was not available for BlackBerry. This si funny!

What if you use Android? Facetime only works between iOS users. What if your friend is on Android or BB10? ("Let me add you. Oh, you use BB10? Nevermind. We can't be friends. Let's stare at each other with weird faces across the room.") Same thing with BBM. It must be nice having all your total of 5 friends using BBM!
Also, what if you want to message your friend who is on his Windows PC and away from his phone? Skype is one of the best multiplatform video chat solutions. Most importantly, it covers PCs in addition to mobile OSes. Maybe there are alternatives to Skype; but Facetime and BBM are not two valid examples.
I use Skype both for family video calls with non BlackBerry user relatives overseas, and also for the cheap international long distance rates to call landlines/mobile numbers

Until BBM will be real multiplatform (including desktop, tablets and all mobile platform),Skype is #1 for me.
I see your point. I don't use any of these applications aside from BBM, but I can see how others would.
Maybe a better example would be FaceFlow, but it has become a paid application at this time.
Use it all the time.
I use it mainly for chatting though. If there was a "Pidgin" app my BlackBerry would be complete.

How long before apple release facetime as a cross platform app? We will have BBM going cross platform, hopefully WhatsApp and Viber will have video chat. Will apple stand alone?

I do. With my wife when she is traveling. With my daughter in the Marines etc.
Works good for a Droid port. Hope is come out native BlackBerry sometime.

I do. Skypeout is awesome. Ability to call my Dad's telephone from Skype, long distance to another continent, and it only costs < 3 cents/min... hard to beat.

I think it's safe to say Apple will never cross platform Facetime or iMessage.

I use it once every couple weeks when I have to make a phonecall overseas. Rates are still better than most cell companies and I have an unlimited yearly plan for landlines worlwide . Other than that I do not use it. Viber is sadly the app of choice when it comes to voip as most of the people I know still carry the archaic device called iphone.

I use it all the time. To call my parents and my in laws spread across the globe.
Usually using a desktop or my wife's Android device though because the BB10 port is quite terrible and unreliable.
I have high hopes for BBM though, if it becomes truly cross platform I'll convert my whole family to it, provided there's a desktop component as well.
Well, Skype is still a much popular app and it is often used for social interactions with friends, family members etc. Of-course, email, bbm, video are freely available via some apps but you get what you pay for. Hence, I always use RHUB`s appliance for conducting my business meetings b/c it provides me quality service and is more secured as compared to hosted services.
It's pretty simple really.
With small paid Skype subscription one can call land lines.

All the time, business meetings and family.
My Skype doesn't work at all as soon as I open it, it blacks out and close out

I use it on occasion, such as when I'm traveling, or significant others are traveling and want to video chat. I do find it to be a bit buggy, and the "available notification" won't delete from my hub unless the phone is restarted. Good thing it is a real "once in a while" item for me.
