No there isn't. The apps all need to stay open

What functionality would a headless weather app offer that you can't get now?

I guess it would/could update weather (in some time frame, hourly, two-hourly, etc) with the NO active frame but might be able to show the weather on the status line or over-the-wallpaper. Kind of like OS6 apps.

Exactly what I'm looking for. In OS7 & earlier the temp would show in the ribbon along w/ other notifications. I'm OK w/ no ribbon notifications but would LOVE to see current temp on my home screen w/o having to open a weather app.

They should make it show on the icon like the current date does on the calendar icon.

To me this is the last feature missing to make OS10 complete. IMHO

That would be great, if the OS offered that functionality in the first place - the ability to display extra things on the screen, or, as suggested, modify the icon in real time.

My hope is that 10.3 might bring something like that back to the OS, because it sure needs it.

I'd like to see something like the homescreen return - sort of a more directly interactive version of the lock screen.

    But that's just me.

I was hopeful for BeWeather to do what it did for legacy phones, but only been disappointed with it for BB10.

    Sad...

I bought wallpaper changer HD back in November b/c it offered the temp In the ribbon. But it no longer works.

I'm running Z30STA100-3/10.2.1.2228 and uninstalled & reinstalled several times w/ no luck.

They could integrate this easily with the clock app, since it's sort-of running in the background and it also has weather..

Well bummer. It use to work on my z30 but stopped back before Christmas and hasn't since.

It opens for about 2 seconds then closes. I can't keep it open long enough to set wallpapers. So I gave up. That has been true through 3 os's

Oh well. Maybe BlackBerry is working on this functionality to show it either on the icon or in a ribbon.

Well the calender app has a constantly changing icon to follow the date. I'm sure they could easily implement this into the weather app.
For the record the bb10 weather app is stunning. They definitely put some work On that thing

Agree on all of the above. I sure hope they are working on an active icon.

Still have to open the app to get that info. Opening weather just as easy w/ more weather info.

However I am glad you posted this b/c I didn't know it had weather in the world clock. I'm traveling to Cambodia in a few weeks and this function is very useful to me.

+1 on waiting on beweather to run headless. More so for severe weather alerts than other information.

BeWeather will already push severe weather alerts even when it's not running. Any app can do that already with push notifications; it doesn't have to be headless.

But it does for it to do as it does on the legacy phones where it updates the wallpaper etc. This is what is missing from the BB10 version. The BB10 is sorely lacking when compared.

Push notifications are handled differently and have been available long before headless apps were made. The USA Today app is not headless, but it's been able to push breaking news notifications since it debuted on BB10. In fact, it can't stop - even when set to not push notifications. The last update that was supposed to fix that, didn't fix that.

I can get alerts from the weather channel as I've signed up for them. I would assume Usa today would operate the same way. When you get there app, it could set it up to send alerts whether you have their app open or not. Beweather dosen't have a web site that I've found to set up alerts, therefore I don't understand how they can send alerts without something running.
