Filmstrip indicates video, not movie. It fits perfectly because the first icon looks less appealing, more like a panic button. We need something that says "for VIDEO, press here".

Guys, there is a reason why both Apple and BlackBerry removed the film sprockets from their video apps. It goes against the new flat UI design. Anachronisms and skeumorphism are dead (for the time being)

I do agree, maybe the screened image behind the first "tube" logo could be more apparent and obvious. But film sprockets are a backwards and lazy approach.

I apologize for having the worst taste to the entire thread, "guy". I honestly don't remember attacking you in such a manner, but ok. Filmstrip overlay is a classic nod to video. I figured it would be a nice idea. Non-constructive criticism duly noted.

Sauron, at the risk of invoking wrath from "other" thread contributor(s), the bottom one is very good. Can you add Super and Tube above and below for the splash screen (not on the icon)? The same font from earlier?

I did do some minor tweaks to the design of both. I am leaning towards the first one personally cause it looks simpler? The film strip icon might look quite similar to the default video app icon which is also red and has a filmstrip design too. :/



Anyway, I would hope that just by having the same colour and the same rounded rectangular shape with youtube would make it recognisable enough.

I would say the bottom one is pretty good. The addition of the full name makes it rectangular which would presumably need adjustment, and anyway, the text appears below the icon when it's installed making the full text somewhat redundant. Maybe just 'super' above if you really want.

There are two icons there not one, it's a shame on the app it adds a black background and puts them so close together on too of each other.

So the stock video icon for 10.3 also has a film strip effect? How curious, I thought for sure I heard somewhere that 'skeuomorphism' was dead (if it even is that).

Well I like Saurons latest set as well, also makes it easily distinguishable as a Video/Youtube app.

Again I want to thank you all, I am impressed by the talent and generosity that you all have.

Personally I like the style of FabianB's splash screen and love the first icon of Alex_Hong and the first of sauron4.
But as I said before, I would like that the choice of the icon and the splash screen, should be a choice made by you and not by me Regarding this, seems that sauron4 got most approvals ?!

I think Alex Hong has the better and more integrated to 10.3 standard icons

I still prefer Alex's first icon, but Sauron's most recent Web player icon and Fabian's hexagonal one are both really great. You can't do wrong at this point.

And for the record, I didn't realize BB's video app had sprockets, too. Truly awful looking icon, no matter. But my mistake.
