Did anyone else get an email from Skype saying that Skype app for android devices will be discontinued soon? Skype offered me to updated it but there's no update in BlackBerry World. I assume they mean the app I use on my BlackBerry as it's a ported application and I don't use any android devices.

Got the same message. But what do they mean? BlackBerry Skype app is equal to the android app and I'm sure that they won't stop it.
I also have the desktop versions installed. Maybe this version is discontinued to push the windows 8 metro app

    It needs a version upgrade.

It's probably newer in the Amazon App Store or Snap, just use that one.

check out the Skype reviews in BB world. There are multiple, recent complaints of failure, some along the lines of people getting an email instructing people to upgrade and then not being able to get it to work, and others suddenly having problems with whatever version was installed. I don't know if that's what's always being said about Skype in there, though.

We are now retiring older versions of Skype and it appears that you're currently using one of these. To continue signing into Skype on your mobile or tablet, you'll need to download the latest version. The new version comes with improved performance, the latest features and security updates, so you'll get the best possible Skype experience.
