Note: this thread assumes that you have a basic understanding of what bitcoin is. If you don't, read Bitcoin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia first

I recently started mining bitcoin in my spare time (well, actually altcoins, but that's somewhat irrelevant. And yes, I realize I'm a bit late to the game) and realized that there was a complete lack of bitcoin related apps in BlackBerry World (or, at the very least, of native ones). So far I've made a very simple bitcoin price app (Bit Calc - BlackBerry World) using the API provided by bitcoinaverage, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in that app.

As normally happens, I've started tossing around the idea of filling this void by making an app myself that I'll be able to use. In this case, that means making a much expanded bitcoin app that utilizes the services I personally use.

So, I'm considering making a BlackBerry 10 app that uses the Coinbase API (if you don't have a Coinbase account,
get one here), and might also integrate the Middlecoin API.

Before I put any more* effort into making an app like this however, I figured I'd see if there was much interest here on CrackBerry. So, if you would like to see (or would not like to see) a bitcoin app that allows you to manage your coinbase account (that is, buy/sell/send bitcoin and view your wallet status), view your middlecoin stats, and possibly other things that might be suggested by CrackBerry users, please either post in this thread or vote in my poll

And if you don't want to vote in the poll but would like to support the idea (or have extra bitcoins you don't know what to do with), you vote with your wallet (pun

*I spent 30 minutes or so getting oauth2 working so I could get access to my coinbase account, but no UI or anything has been built for the app. Hadn't ever messed with OAuth before.

I read somewhere that bitcoins are worth like 800 dollars. Actually I just looked it up it appears they have pulled a BlackBerry and are now worth 110. But they were up to 800 at one time so you never know! Maybe now is the time to get in.

True! When I first started looking at them they were around 75 bucks, but went up since.

Lol, they're pretty cheap on MtGox because that exchange won't let you withdraw. They're up around $600 everywhere else.

Doesn't seem to be much interest in an app like this, so I'll shutter this one for now.

I am going to bring this thread back from the dead...

I would love to have a native BB10 app for Blockchain.info wallets. I have been using the Android app, but it stinks on the Q10 screen. It seems all the APIs are public:
