AC3 used to work. They took it out, license issue.

I don't think it ever worked. I've tried since I got the Z10 in Feb.

I have Kalemsoft, it plays, but on the Z30 the screen doesn't rotate.

Joe VLC doesn't work too well.

It worked for sure in 10.0, taken out for 10.1. I used to be able to watch Top Gear encoded with AC3, now I can't

Ok I think we're mixing up 16:9 (aspect ratio) with landscape vs portrait mode ...

I have Kalemsoft on my PB and my Q10; widescreen movies (16:9, 16:10) will playback on the screen, in their native aspect ratio... so on the PB, a widescreen movie will fill the whole screen. On the q10, the widescreen movie will fill the middle portion of the Q's screen, or if you chose, you can zoom in and have the picture fill the entire screen (but this could cut off both sides pretty severely) .. on the Q, there is no way to rotate the movie to take advantage of the Q's tall display (im not sure if this is what you guys meant by 'it wont do 16:9') ... I dont own a Z, so I cant say whether or not the app will work in both portrait and landscape mode.. Strange if it could not, seems like an obvious omission if not.

That trick of turning the phone to its side, and then launching the app - that worked for me on some droid apps i loaded onto my playbook... they would not auto rotate when in the app, but if I launched the app with the tablet on its side, the app would launch in landscape mode...

I should really read all previous posts before replying to one lol... ok so it IS a rotation issue..

Have u tried launching kalemsoft with your phone turned sideways? Does that work?

Lazy to don't know who mentioned it, but Joe VLC (vcl???) does play ac3/mkv files. But I may be doing something wrong but it did not show my videos nor my sd card when I went looking around the Folders. But when I used the Search function in it, it did show videos.

In joe's VLC you have to go to options and click on directories to pull files from. Then enter custom path to where your videos are stored.

In my case I have my videos on SD card in videos folder. This is the path to use "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/" without the quotes of course.

Ah, that worked for the sd card.

Oh, I forgot - it seems to show those mkv videos as a double/sidebyside images!!!!

What about the internal video folder. Odd that it shows under "internal memory" most folders but NOT the video folder! That's where I actually stored those sample mkv/ac3 videos.

    I just tried

    /mnt/sdcard/videos/

but it did not work. And, if possible, how does one DELETE some of these, now wrong, folder references!!!

It's a bit buggy but I would just uninstall and reinstall. And by uninstall I mean via ghost commander>applications>tap+hold>manage>uninstall

That's a long process but it removes all the android installation file structure and therefore the saved settings of custom paths.

THEN reinstall and add the one working path.

Also, no idea about side by side video. Stereoscopic video?

Kalemsoft player is good and does everything I want. But I have a problem to lock the orientation. Even if the phone orientation setting is already locked, the player still rotates. Any solution for this?

Write to support. For the price, the app should be able to handle orientation properly. But which phone model?

    BlackBerry Z10.
Was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or even the fix. And it's been a long time since last time I used this program because I don't travel often anymore now.

Looks nice but it does not appear to play mkv files with ac3 audio. It does play mkv with non-ac3.

What @F2 said. Nutty is a good app I agree. As it was featured in the blogs. I downloaded it and like it. But AC3 is a awfully common filetype. Until it can play more types than native player, many will have to resort to other solutions.

That said, I do like the nutty UI. What I would like more is more formats supported, playlist feature, and play-on feature (to play on other devices". If nutty implemented that stuff, I'd gladly donate/pay for it. (because it's free atm)

I've been using Joe's VLC, but for some 720p MKV with AC3 the playback is not smooth. I get stutter and low frame rate etc. I'm guessing the STL100-1 just doesn't have the CPU to handle it?
