Since introducing Orbit six weeks ago, we've had an enourmous amount of great feedback. Most of you seem as thrilled with the app as we are, but of course there were many requests and suggestions.
Request #1 was the resolution of our satellite images. So we sent our astronauts up to install new and improved satellite optics, giving you a 4x sharper imageof the planet. We have also sent them on a Hollywood special effects course, and enhanced the illumination techniques used to draw land masses, mountains, ice caps and so on. You can almost feel the ridges of the mountains, the sand of the deserts and the leaves in the rainforests under your finger. We spoke to the Danish government and got special permission for you to lick Greenland. Joking aside, check out the difference:
You also asked for more local info. So we added 136.000 more cities, including local forecasts and current conditions where available. Tap the search button and enter part of the location name. If the city is not found in the apps local database, tap the "Search Online" button. Long place names are handled more intelligently too, and we also search alternate and localized spellings (e.g. chinese, arabic):
You want your favourite weather app running all the time. So Orbit now has an active frame (window cover) that displays the weather and time for the currently selected location. It updates automatically, and we've made sure your battery is used as economically as possible:
Want to share Orbit with your friends? Tap the new Share button to share your current view via BBM, Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and more:
You told us you love to tweak, so the adjustment panel has had a redesign with funky new rotary controls - much easier for 1-handed operation:
Some users were a little confused by the retrograde orbit of our satellite, thinking the earth was suddenly spinning the wrong way. Prograde (same direction as the earth) is now default, and we made the orbit configurable via the Settings screen.
Of course we also support the new BlackBerry Z30, BB10 10.2, have fixed various minor bugs, and have made many performance improvements.
Thank you for such great update, the app looks much more feature packed than before. still I would like to see some performance optimisations if possible. Maybe you could also add an optional FPS counter?
Is it possible that the timing is off on the day lit portion of the Earth? It seems like the image is showing the shadow line about 5 or 6 hours behind what is actually occurring. I'm at the western end of Lake Ontario - GMT - 5 hours (+1 daylight savings time).
This is an excellent app and it's earned the coveted position of an Active Frame on my Z-10. Those were all huge improvements in the last update.
I'm encountering a small bug; the temperature in my active frame disappears after a short while.
Thanks. We've identified the cause and are in the process of preparing a fix. The problem happens when your device (temporarily) loses data connectivity. Orbits active frame does not recover from such situations the way it should. Stay tuned.
