    ORBIT version 1.2 - the world in your pocket-orbit-banner.png

    ORBIT, the world time and weather app, has been updated to version 1.2. Here is what's new:

    • FIXED: bug in daylight calculation;
    • FIXED: bug causing share feature to occasionally distort image;
    • IMPROVED: more robust in low network coverage areas;
    • IMPROVED: optimized data usage;
    • IMPROVED: the weather detail/forecast screen is now updated live;
    • IMPROVED: low and high temperatures are now calculated over the next 24 hours;
    • IMPROVED: much smoother animations, especially on Z10 STL100-1;
    • IMPROVED: more compact Adjust panel on Q10/Q5.

    Orbit is a spectacular virtual earth, a weather app and a world clock in one. With Orbit, you have the world in your pocket! Explore our beautiful planet in magnificent, live 3D while it slowly spins through space. Fly around the earth in your own virtual satellite, watch the sun rise and set, see the city lights come on at night!.

    Orbit is great fun to play with, but it is much more than a toy. It gives you instant access to the time and weather of over 137.000 major cities worldwide, including a detailed 10-day forecast. Show a world clock of all your favorite cities, then go there with a simple tap on the screen.

    NASA and NOAA satellite images are used to show live cloud cover. Adjust the cloud layer to get a better view of the geography. You can even zoom in to take a closer look and see the mountains cast a shadow at sunset.

    Check out the DEMO VIDEO on our site!

    UPDATE: Maintenance release tp v1.21 is now also available. No new features, but it has some small tweaks and fixes, and we've adjusted the layout on Z30. Enjoy!

    Orbit is cool, but things could get pretty hot with it in your pocket for any extended time!

    But you sold me! I just downloaded the app and my pocket is already smokin'!

    Well, when you're in space you can get pretty hot, but also pretty cold. That's because space is a vacuum, and unlike here on Earth there is no convection (moving air) to warm you up or cool you down. In fact, because space is a vacuum, it actually has no temperature. It's not until you put something IN space that it gets hot or cold. Bare metal on the outside of a satellite orbiting Earth can get as hot as +260C in the sun and as cold as -100C in shade. Our app contains virtual thermal buffers to protect you from those extremes ;-)

    Seriously, when you switch off your screen, Orbit will stop doing it's thing, go to sleep and only wake up briefly now and then to update its weather and clock. It will spend most of its time waiting to come out and play. It certainly shouldn't get hot. Unless you keep pulling it out of your pocket and playing with it... We're still talking about Orbit of course.

    Nice GIFs, by the way.

    I really love it, though I haven't been able to get any weather info today. But when I do, I especially love the temperature graph. I can't believe I've never seen that format before. It's great.

    I wonder if you could somehow add in a view of the thin veneer of useable atmosphere that the astronauts often talk about. It might be a good reminder to take care of it a little better.

    I personally LOVE the app. Its really cool looking, very functional and i find it to be too easy to use. I like to travel to random places of warmth and it is soo easy to just touch a city at any givin moment to get an idea of the weather there. If i could i would totally make the app my permanant wallpaper on my q10.

    We've had a report from one user that it works fine while on Wifi but doesn't work on his 3G. We haven't been able to reproduce the problem here. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Orbit saves your current "favorite" list of cities. You can add to them, and set any of them as your home city. Orbit returns to your home city when you start the app, or when you tap Home. Check out our video to see how to add cities to your favorite list.

    When you tap Current it should locate the nearest city.. For this to work you must have granted Orbit to access your location: Settings > Security > App Permissions > Orbit > Location ON. You must also have location services switched on: Settings > Location Services > Location Services ON.

    Sushistew, if this is not working for you, please e-mail us so we can troubleshoot.

    home works great now, thanks a lot for the help and the great app. it still thinks my current locations is way off, my location is on Vancouver island, BC and it chooses Vancouver, BC as my location which is well over 100 km away?
    i am running a leak .1055 so if it has to do with that than its my fault.

    To keep the size of the app manageable, Orbit contains "only" about 1750 major cities built-in. When you first start it, or when you tap the Current button, Orbit looks up the location of the nearest major city in that list. However, you can add other cities from our online database (137.000 of them). Just tap Search, type (part of) the name, and if your city isn't found tap Search Online. You can add those locations to your favorites list too, and set one as home city.

    On Vancouver Island, locations like Campbell River, Nanaimo, Victoria, Port Alberni, Parksville, Sooke etc. are listed.

    Yes, it's meant to depict mist: white and partly see-through.
