I think what he meant by dead was app development and updates wise.
Yeah, I figured that's what was meant. Which is why my answer was 0.2 out of 10 in my post.

Nemory can you release the legal papers to your s&d? Would be great to find a loophole

From what I read, the problem was mainly the logo and name. In their main argument they didn't mention the APIs, it was at the end that they threw in that he also used their APIs which they don't allow.

I think they best thing to do now if for Nem to open source the app as he has nothing to gain from it and he may as well let someone else see what they can do with it?

Agreed, if he sees this and wouldn't mind. There are probably several of us that could take a stab and see if enhancements are feasible. Free of charge of course. Wouldn't want to end up with the same problem as Nem.

Huh? Blackberry had nothing to do with this. Snapchap made him stop.

What's the big deal changing the app logo and name? But it's easy to foget the app

It's because no matter how you change or re-brand it still uses the unauthorized api.

So you got the API's from reverse engendering an apk? I understand there are no public API's

Wouldnt it be better if you open source it and let someone else have a crack on it? Since the code is just laying there and you won't be able to improve it because BlackBerry blocks it?

Haha I know it's a typo, but the phrase reverse engendering gave me a good chuckle.

No, someone else did months ago and posts it online because snapchat didn't fix security issues they pointed out to them.

I might open source it if there's really an interested person who wants to continue working on it. But still depends

I'm sure there are people who would mess with it, if it was in JavaScript rather than QML/C++ I would.

Then it's a legal issue, shouldn't started the project in a first place, smell like stealing here

Yeah I think you might as well. Would be good to see who can enhance it. Or hand it over to @jcarty or someone hehe

Open source is good but he shouldn't leave it open to the world to access. He should give it to one person who can continue working on it and provide updates.

Maybe more than one, but limited, since a few hands-on might be better than just one.

Yeah, completely open source might lead to a lot of clones of inferior quality, or some malicious stuff being added.

Small team would probably be better.

If I knew how to code, I would join a couple other guys in maintaining this.

If someone knew enough to implement malicious code, they wouldn't need the source code in the first place.
