What a shame that we never got any of the chat apps. I believe Signal is open source. Is it possible that a third party version could be produced, or is that impossible?

the Android version requires Google services. Any good way around that?

Signal is better. Snowden say Signal. Signal is open source. Signal uses phone number like WhatsApp.
