Hey CrackBerry

I am working on a native Goodreads client for BlackBerry 10! It is still very early in development, but I hope to start a closed beta soon before the end of December. I will be using this thread for posting screenshots and keep you guys updated with the progress of the app.

Please, please, have a search tool for the "read" bookshelf. I don't use the mobile version on either of my tablets for that reason. Looking forward to your BlackBerry version.

Definitely something that I will add!

Just implemented user login, that plus a couple more basic features and some UI polishing and the app will be ready for closed beta.

Hey guys,

Quick update on the progress (with screenshots).

Most of the functionality for Groups, Shelves, Topics, Notifications and Books has been implemented.


Will add Friends to the overflow menu


Notifications page


Groups that user is in


Folders for the discussions in the group


List of Topics in a specific folder



Posting new topic in discussion folder, with options for notifications


Book info page (still very minimum, plus needs some formatting), the book covers from Goodreads are small, will probably have to use another service to get a book cover to display.


Positing a new status for a specific book

Once I finish up the Groups section, I will begin a closed beta to find bugs and fix them before initial release.

Also during the closed beta I will begin implementing Friends section with the help of the beta testers (specific interactions and preferences etc)

Hello everybody, I apologize for the delays that the app has faced these past couple of months. Luckily though I have some good news, I feel that the app is ready for a open beta. It should be available at https://appworld.blackberry.com/webs...tent/59949374/ but I believe it takes some time for the app to appear on BlackBerry world.

In addition to that, I want to push the app to a stable release at the very least, so that you would be able to use the features available on Goodreads. However, after that I don't know how to proceed with the app for two reasons:

• The first and major reason is simply that the Goodreads API is a nightmare to work with, it has weird naming for its methods, the documentation on each call is minimal and most of the time I have to spend time figuring out what possible types of responses I might get instead of focusing on the app itself, also a lot of times the API endpoints aren't updated in the documentation, and a lot of time must be spent on their developer forums to find the solution (usually with a different endpoint, or different parameters), the way the content is organized in the API responses requires some unnecessary additional parsing to get to the content that is actually useful. All in all it is a pain, and requires a lot of unnecessary additional work to use. There is a lot more as well, but you get the idea
• The second and the minor reason is the recent lack of updates to the Native SDK road map, and the rumors of the BlackBerry Venice. I feel invested into this app to at least see it through to a stable version. So as long as there is enough interest in the BlackBerry 10 version I will push updates working towards a stable version regardless of what BlackBerry plans with Android.
