    In Settings->App Permissions I denied Foursquare access to my location.
    But if I start foursquare, I have the small "location service in use"-icon next to the battery in the upper left corner. And foursquare indeed shows me places near my location!
    Why is this possible?

    Have you denied both, "Location" and "GPS Location" permissions?

    Did you have wifi on? Maybe it knows the MAC or the router.

    I don't use four square, but isn't location sharing a basic feature of the service. I mean you say you are at XYZ restaurant.

    Well, if I open the settings, go to Permissions and select the App Foursquare I only have 4 Options: Location, Contacts, Shared Files and BBM...
    @gariac
    Yeah, I also thought that, but wouldn't that mean, that if I deactivate location services totally in settings->location services, foursquare should still be able to locate me, but it doesn't. it then tells me "please turn on location services"...

    Since the location icon appears next to the battery symbol in the upper left corner when I start foursquare and disappears when I close it again, I assume that the application is actually using the location services. But how can an application bypass the app permissions?

    I never even noticed the location icon. Looks like a guitar pick or space alien head. ;-) Yeah, I know, it looks like the marker used on a map.

    I would say you have a good point. If it is turning on your GPS, then BlackBerry security has a problem. I would do a post on the BlackBerry user forum.

    You can use the engineering screen to doubly check that the GPS is being turned on. Location Services is on the first screen.

    Just installed Foursquare and noticed that it does not ask for location privileges at all. Seems like a bug / vulnerability to me.

    As an aside, isn't the whole point of FourSquare based on where you are now, and what you're doing? Why block your location then?
