Headless Cuckoo is an advanced native, headless hourly (and half-hourly / quarter-hourly) chime application for BlackBerry 10. Works invisibly in the background with no unnecessary windows or active frames. Power efficient - no noticeable battery or CPU usage. Just select your preferred sounds and options (e.g. excluded hours or days), close the app and let the headless service run invisibly and do its job, reminding you with the selected included or custom sound (and/or vibration/LED) about the passing time. Great as a reminder, time manager, or simply yet another pleasant and useful feature of your BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

    Features:

    • Native, headless, runs invisibly in the background
    • Autostarts upon reboot or when you open the app
    • Headless service can be stopped/started anytime with one tap
    • 6 nice chime sounds included
    • Use any other sound file stored on your phone or downloaded from the Internet as chime sound
    • Select interval: hourly (on the hour - :00), half-hourly (every 30 minutes - :00 and :30) or quarter-hourly (every 15 minutes - :00, :15, :30, :45)
    • Select the number of chimes: 1, 2, 3, or the current hour (e.g. 10 times at 10:00)
    • Vibration on/off, and duration (short, medium, long)
    • LED on/off, and choose color (red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta, white)
    • "No sound" option for only LED and/or vibration notifications at selected intervals
    • Select chime sound volume (relative to phone's main multimedia volume setting)
    • Exclude days - there will be no chime on the selected days of week
    • Exclude hours - there will be no chime between the selected hours
    • Almost unmeasurable CPU and battery usage
    • More features to come in future updates.

For all those who complained about "low volume" (without realizing that it's only because they have the main media volume of the phone set at a low level and thus restricting the application's volume), an update has just been submitted to BB World and will become available once approved.

This new version brings two volume (loudness) modes, which you can choose on the new Settings screen:

** Volume relative to phone's main media volume (like in previous versions) - this is the default mode compliant with how the BB10 OS controls applications' volume. Max volume level in this mode can only be as loud as the currently set phone's main media volume. If you find the loudness too low at max setting in the app, you simply need to increase the phone's main volume level (e.g. using Volume buttons on the side of the phone)

** Override phone's main volume setting - in this mode you can set chime sound's loudness independently of phone's current main volume level, which means that it can be as loud as the phone can produce. Note, however, that this is achieved by temporarily increasing the phone's main volume to max level (just for the time of the chime sound's playback) and then instantly reverting it back to what it was, which works perfectly fine most of the time, but if some other audio is playing at the same time (e.g. you're listening to music when the chime sound goes off) that other audio's loundness will temporarily be increased to max level, too, which may sometimes be disturbing. There is probably no other way to override phone's currently set main volume level.

Choose whichever mode suits you better.

Upon first launch, there is also a toast shown informing about these two modes and asking the user to go to the Settings page (where detailed information about either of them is provided) and choose one of them. Hopefully this time no one will miss it.

    Bought.

First run toast dialogue doesn't scroll/scroll locked properly (UK O2 Passport), otherwise a neat app.
