Glympse via BBM, coming soon :)-glympse.png
It will soon be possible to easily share your location on BBM by sending glympses

    "Location Acquired"
    "Syncing with Glympse servers..."
    "Send Glympse"

Shortcut "S", Shortcut used to send a Glympse to a BBM user

I'm not sure how it will work. All I know is that you can share your location in real time via BBM.

Can We not do that now? Open a BBM chat > Attach > Location > Send.

Never used glympse so perhaps it's a little different.

Difference appears to be real time location for xx amount of time.

Whereas now it's where you are at that instant in time.

Since moving from BB OS 6 (Blackberry Bold 9700) to BB 10 (Blackberry Q10), Glympse is one of the progams that I miss the most.

I liked this program so much and found it very useful that I wrote a blog entry about it *HERE*

I'm hoping for this program for my Q10.

I never understood checking in or sharing your location with everyone. It's just an invitation to come rob your house.

Just because it's possible doesn't mean you should do it.

Let say you want to meet with people for a picnic in a park. Wouldn't it be nice to share your location with your trusted friends so that they can find you?

What about heels shopping with your bffs? Do you really want to wait by a statue and be hit on by every loser trying his luck or would you rather just shop and have your friends meet you were you are?

As long as the info is not public, unlike foursquare, I don't really see the problem.

While I don't share locations with everyone (only select people) and do realize that there are dangers from publishing too much information on status such as you being on vacation (making it easier for people to rob your home knowing that you aren't there), I do publish my location sometimes to friends and find it useful. It makes meeting/bumping into friends at the location a lot easier.

In terms of Glympse, I find Glympse very useful when I'm going to pick someone up or meet someone. I will send them a Glympse link/shortcut (it isn't available to everyone unless I wish it to be or unless they forward my link to someone else) and they can track my progress which also shows the route I'm taking to get to them. This saves on time/money/distractions from calling/texting with the usual questions (i.e. "Where are you?", "How far are you away?", etc.). If I'm stuck in traffic, they can see that I'm stuck in traffic. It is also safer than making or picking up a call from the person wondering where you are and why are you late. Not only that but in certain jurisdictions, making/receiving phone calls while driving is illegal.

It shows real time location as well as real time speed on your location without constantly having to manually update your location.
