My Z10 is under repair at the moment so I'm using an android phone. I noticed that after a successful check in using Foursquare last Sunday, I could t check in on another location anymore. Instead, I was prompted to download Swarm to check-in.
Also, today I read in The Verge that Foursquare is going to make a big change. Check ins are to be done in Swarm and focus on food etc will be done via the new Foursquare.

Is BlackBerry going to update Foursquare? If so, are they currently developing a native Swarm app too?

Blackberry doesn't make the Foursquare app, Foursquare does. So I would also assume Foursquare is making their own Swarm BB app as well.

But I thought BlackBerry develops them just like the LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter apps.

Foursquare i think is made by them. Not sure if they have plans to do the swarm app as well but it is needed now

Sorry but on BB10, BlackBerry only makes the facebook app. Twitter and LinkedIn are made by the respective companies.

The Foursquare app is indeed made by Foursquare.

Foursquare makes the app and they have stated that they will not make Swarm for BlackBerry 10. I'm not even sure they'll be updating the Foursquare app anymore with the new stuff.

Now where does that leave the current foursquare app? Will they be abandoning it?

I don't know why people say Twitter actually makes their app for BlackBerry 10, at some point it seemed like that, and their name is even showing on the description of the app but I REALLY don't believe it's them developing that app anymore.

Strangely, updates to Twitter have been seen in 10.2 and 10.2.1 leaks. It's extremely weird that those updates would hold out until a new OS if BlackBerry wasn't developing that app.

Anyway, I doubt swarm will hit BlackBerry World, 4square isn't even being updated anymore.

You're correct. BlackBerry develops the native Twitter app.

So here's another app (Swarm) that would have not been available in BlackBerry 10 if not for the android runtime. Tsk tsk

Wow, looks like we'll end up with nothing (or a ported Swarm) :/ Today I checked the BB World since all the news about Foursquare turning into Swarm and I couldn't find the native Foursquare app that has been there all the time. I only managed to find it via direct link from the 4SQR website and it still works fine, but I'm afraid it won't for long. Anyway - in case anybody wasn't able to find the good ol' native app, here's the shortlink I created: http://bit.ly/BB4SQR

It's a shame, I dont ask for much nor do I have many apps. Bit it seems what dew apps I do have that are native are being removed little by little, or you have to pay for them....ie: MLB, chase, four square, call and text blockers, and also Pandora and no, I don't like Apollo interface....and yes, I can use the browser for some, but then what's the point?

Swarm will not come to BB10, and they have ceased development on the native Foursquare app. They are continuing support for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone only.

I downloaded Swarm from Snap onto my Z30. I don't see the point to it?

At this point, I really couldn't care if they don't make a native app. Android apps in general work well on my Z30 for the most part. Yes, bb10 apps look better....but at least we have access to more apps than WP8. Focus on the positives.

Android apps work well...in general...for the most part. It's those qualifiers that eventually made me give up my Z30. The Android runtime is great and will surely help with the "app gap", but it's not good enough for me. I need a native, seamless app experience, and I'm tired of settling for Android and 3rd party apps.

I actually do use Foursquare, so them no longer supporting BB10 was kind of a wake up call for me.

I don't see why you think they don't support BB10. You can still check in using the Four square app. Swarm is redundant at this time unless they have bigger plans.

I'm not a big app user...but I'm quite happy with the Android apps I use....Google Maps, Flipboard, and all the MoNa apps

The point is the Foursquare app will never get updates again. It's already pretty out of date and lacking some features. Even the Foursquare app for Windows Phone is way better.

I'm just tired of settling or waiting for native apps and app updates that will never come, that's all.

You're tired of waiting so you move to WP8? Sounds like the definition of insanity to me.

Pick up an iPad or iPod or Android tablet like the rest of us.
