WebDAV is definitely the way to go. Let's do it. I am researching it.

I've had an issue trying to restore my contacts from a backup, download completes but it doesn't complete the extraction process... left it overnight and nothing....

How many contacts are you restoring? Another idea to try to speed things up is to use your PC to drag the contacts.zip file from the cloud and on to an SD card, or better still into "/misc/backups" on the phone's internal memory.

An update with support for backups to the phone's internal memory has been submitted to BB World.

Yes I think it's time to go headless. This will stop the app from slowing down when in an active frame, and allow integration of scheduled backups. Applying for headless today.

But then after I get the file copied on /misc/backups, how do I get this file extracted? Do I need the app to do this anyways or simply click on the file itself?

You can use the version (awaiting approval) to extract and restore from internal memory...

    OR

...if it was an emergency you could also open phone's File Manager, navigate to the Zip file (anywhere on the phone or SD card), tap it to open it, and then tap on a contact and wait for it to open, and then select add (+). But you would have to do it for every contact manually.

Are backups incremental (based on delta), or does it just create a new (time-stamped) file every time a user clicks "Backup"?

I really wish we could backup/restore settings/icon placement and that sort of thing (to really eliminate the need for Link).

Backups are not incremental, but they are compartmentalized into separate files for each data type. For example if you backup Contacts and Remember, it will create a separate backup file for each. So your backup of the Calendar, for example, done the previous week remains separate and identifiable. Some data types you will want to backup more frequently and others less frequently.

One can only dream. Security concerns have probably delayed access to such settings. Perhaps some will be made available at a later date.

What about the speed doing the restore process Could the developer please add some benchmarks regarding backup restore speed, specifically with contacts.

Also how well it handles keeping the speed dial contacts after running the restore process of the contacts?

No answer from the developer about the prior question. Hopefully an answer will come out soon.

I suspect that contacts restore speed is the downside of this app.

Most of reviewers are extremely happy because the app backups, but don't test restore, so their review is regarding 50 por cent of the functionality.

Interesting. It does seem to be gone. The non-pro is there as is their usage app. I guess you could write to their contact email.
